Ok - a search of the web only left me with questions, and no answers that really helped me out.

1) Reality check - it is /etc/httpd/conf/httpd2.conf that is used by apache on 10.1. I can ignore /etc/httpd/2.0/conf/httpd2.conf. Assumption is correct or incorrect ?

2) I want to enable directory listing. An index.html file is viewable by browser when placed in a directory, but when removed, I get a 403 error, rather than a directory listing. There is no .htaccess file in this directory, nor its parents, all the way up to document root. I've seen information that mentions modifying the virtual hosts Vhosts.conf file, but the ones I've looked at on my system are all commented out. I can download files in the directory if I point my browser directly at them. Webmin is not being obviously helpful. Any help here?

Can you ping other boxen on your home LAN?

Do you have room on your box to install another distro, or version of Mdk? Unfortunately I'm now running SuSE 9.1 on one of my laptops, as Mdk>9.2 = no wireless. Heck, that's the reason I'm looking through this forum, to see if Mdk 10.1 official may have sorted things out.

I don't really think this belongs over here, someone could easily be having wireless issues in a desktop PC. Maybe it didn't belong in hardware, but "networking" seemed to be all about services, rather than getting the network up and running.

And no one has any ideas?

I'm trying to get 10.1 running on my Toshiba Tecra 9100. 9.2 works extremely well, but I gave up on 10.0 as wireless didn't work, and everything turned black in X sometime after 10.0 rc1.

X is all better in 10.1, so I'm hoping to get wireless to work so that I can finally use KDE 3.2 in a stable environment again. ( I upgraded 9.2 to KDE 3.2 but I eventually had to re-install 9.2. Things got too hinky after a while)

Anyway, wireless doesn't work. I found bug 514 in the anthill, and now PCMCIA is working, which in my case means that the built in wireless card is now detected.

If I run iwconfig, I see signal strength and the access points MAC address, so I know that the internal wifi and the AP are talking to each other, but I'm not getting an IP address from the AP, and if I manually input an IP address for the wifi card, I get a "network not available" message. drakconnect is not helping. harddrake2 shows the wifi adaptor, but configuring it doesn't get me anywhere.

I've searched TFW, and am not getting anywhere, so if any of you can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Not necessarily. My Toshiba 9100 worked flawlessly under 9.2. X still worked under 10.0 RC1, but broke with 10.0 CE and 10.0 OE. Builit in Wireless only works under 9.2.

I'm here posting using my Windoze partition, looking for answers as well.....

Well, my 9.2 + KDE 3.2 system that had been acting a bit funky, just got a lot funkier. It's a laptop, and the last time I tried to reboot it, it kept complaining about a corrupt filesystem. Knoppix said the filesystem was just fine, thanks. I Finally figured out that there was no /etc/fstab.

So, two things.

1) I know that Mandrake is modifying /etc/fstab at boot time. Perhaps even as the system is running? What evil bit of software killed my /etc/fstab? harddrake? Something else?

2) Anyone feel like copying their /etc/fstab here? I managed to put one together that was good enough to get me up and running, but I'd really like to see a version that was generated by Mandrake.

Actually, yes, I did. With no effect. And KDE configuration certainly won't help when I run XFCE for grins.

Nope - It uses the standard Savage driver. And, as mentioned, some bits and pieces are visible, but 99.5% isn't. So, X is definitely running, but somehow isn't turning most of the pixels of the LCD screen on. It looks like anything that is a bitmap or .gif or jpg is displayed properly, but window backgrounds, text, frames, etc... are all black.

I suppose I could try and see what happens if I use the basic VGA driver...

Ok - did a silly thing. I upgraded 10.0 RC1 to the latest version on the cooker as of yesterday. Now, practically everything in an X session is black. Background, window frames, most text, etc...

The corners of windows are visible, as well as some icons. So I can see that X is running ok. I telinited down to run level 3, then tried a startx, startkde, startxfce with the same results. The X server runs, but nothing is visible.

Text mode in the other virtual ttys is just fine.

Suggestions on where to look for answers/clues?

Ok - somehow Mandrake didn't see the built in wireless card during the installation process and install the wireless utilities and other wireless support. It did manage to pick up on everything for 9.2, so some refinement is needed.

I found a blurb on Kwifimanager, urpmi'd it, picked up a few dependencies and voila!!

I am really, really liking 10.0

Yep - same thing happened to me in regards to having "noauto" as part of the fstab entry for /usr. Took me a few minutes to figure out why none of my console commands would work, and why X wouldn't start.

Also, just like 9.2, the <alt-R> - <cursor arrow> combination keys didn't work. Changing the layout in XF86Config-4 from "en-US" to "us"solved that problem. Which is nice, as Mandrake had not published the solution when I first started using 9.2, and I had to enable keyboard switching to solve it last time.

Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to get wireless working again (it worked great under 9.2) and how to get anti-aliased fonts to work in the window and tab text of firefox. The actual text of browsed windows is anti-aliased, but not the text in the window "frame" itself.

So far, things are looking very good in RC1. I recommend it. KDE 3.2 ROCKS!!!! It is like I have a new computer that is twice as fast, if not more. Oh - and I use keyboard shortcuts a lot, and now KDE has a GUI to work with them. It looks like I can use a nice blend of KDE and Windows shortcuts to wow and impress my friends and coworkers.

Been wanting to do this, then read the release notes for Thunderbird .5

Dropped the script into /usr/local/bin as it is in the PATH and I thought that maybe, just maybe, one day there'd be more than one user using this system.

Alternatively, you can explicitly tell Mozilla Thunderbird which shell script should be run for particular urls by setting the following user preferences to Thunderbird (don't forget to change the path and name to point to your shell script):

Repeat for each protocol you want Thunderbird to dispatch (https, ftp, etc.).

this should go in a newly created file called user.js in /home/users login/.thunderbird/default/jibbersh.slt/

I did a search, and didn't find anything regarding this in tips and tricks, so I hope it is not a duplicate.

Been using GRUB since SuSE 7.1 through various RedHats and LFS and an attempt at Gentoo and now on MDK 9.2

Used to use LILO, but got used to GRUB and haven't looked back.

Ok, so I've got Flash working under MozillaFirebird, but the audio is very choppy and high pitched sounding. Utterly unintelligible, and somewhat reminiscent of Alvin and the Chipmunks.

MP3s, CDs, etc all work just fine in Totem, so it's not the sound drivers.

Any ideas?

Another endorsement for the rpm on the sluglug site, over the one on the macromedia site. I also learned that the libstdc++ that is needed is libstdc++2.10-2.96-0.83mdk not libstdc++5-devel-3.3.1-2mdk.

Now I need to figure out why installing JRE as described in the mandrakeusers tip causes MozillaFirebird to cease working. Luckily, removing the symlink allows MF to work again. Of course, LlimeWire works now, so there was some forward progress.

Toshiba 8100 800Mhz worked great with MDK9.2. Other than ACPI, everything worked. I did have to use the ltmodem drivers for the modem though.

I'm now running a Toshiba 9100, and it seems to work pretty good, but I need to find out how to get the thing to not wait for 2 minutes or so to get a DHCP lease for the built in Ethernet when I'm just running wireless.

Ok - used kbdconfig to change from US to US (International) and voila !

I am now trying to get versed in X key maps to see if I can get the Windows key to do something besides just sit there.

Interesting - apparently the left side alt key - arrow combinations work, but not the right side alt key.

I'm thinking this is not a Mozilla, Firebird, Nautilus, or even KDE problem, as the same thing happens when I use GNOME WM..

Ok, I'm new to Mandrake and this might have been covered somewhere, but a search didn't turn any thing up for me.

I'm getting tired of having to use the mouse to click on "Back" in mozilla/nautilus. I'm used to just doing the <Alt>-<left arrow> combination. Anyone have a fix?
