  1. I think Libranet is quite good. It is easy to install and automatically configures itself to your hardware, plus it is 100% binary compatible with Debian. :)
  2. Thank you. I also tried to use the windows version of vba in wine, and it worked!
  3. I really would like to be able to use my joystick instead of the keyboard for this. How do I go about it? I have typed --help and cannot see any option for joystick configuration. :(
  4. Is it possible to upgrade from 9.1 to 9.2 without first downloading the .iso files, and if so how? :)
  5. Yeah it saves you having to CD into that directory. It was actually how I first learned how to use the terminal.
  6. I was in this position a few months ago. First extract the files into their own directory, then go into that directory and right click and then click "open terminal here" and thats where you type in the commands. :)
  7. I am looking forward to this release, but I must admit I don't know exactly what is new in it. Is there a list of what will be new in this release?
  8. have you tried a browser like konqueror that lets you set the browser identification? (Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> Browser Identification) It's generally frowned upon to use this all the time since then it looks like everyone's using windows, but it's easy to set it for particular sites. My bank, for instance, insists that IE is the only secure browser so they only allow IE to access user accounts. But konqueror gets in just fine with fake ID. Well, that's funny they say it is the only secure browser because I hear all the time of exploits in it.
  9. IMHO the only area where Windows beats Linux is in games. :banghead:
  10. Has anyone tried this and can offer an opinion of it? As I understand it is a more userfriendly version of slackware, but how much user friendly is it? Since in slackware you have to edit everything via text files it is way beyond my expertise. If college linux has automated hardware detection then it may be worth trying. :?
  11. I wonder if any adult males will be making this their primary OS.
  12. I've created the directory /home/usr/src and tried to move the /usr/src directory with the commands given, but the -R command isn't working. I have tried this as -R -r - R and - r but none works. :(
  13. I think I'll try the first suggestion then, as I would rather keep the files if possible.
  14. Well, thanks guys. The problem is I'm not sure what I can delete or not. Isn't there some way I can just increase the amount of space for the /usr/ directory?
  15. I don't like the look of that 100% used. :o
  16. Well, the kernel source takes up alot of space (150 mb or so), and when I try to install it I get an error message saying that there is not enough space on the filesystem. So I have deleted numerous files, but I still get the error. What should I do?
  17. I did that, and it seems the problem went away after rebooting. :D
  18. Okay, I started up Kget and it asked me if I wanted to integrate with Konqueror so I said yes and since then I have been unable to use konqueror as a file browser. I tried to configure konqueror but no menu comes up. Anyone know what I can do? This is a serious problem.
  19. I have a directory that I cannot delete because it is owned by Root. I figured out how to delete files within the directory one at a time, but I would like to know if I can delete it all at once because there is about 90 files and I don't want to do that 90 times. So what's the command for removing a directory full of files owned by root? I looked in help and I couldn't find the answer. :?:
  20. Many internet programs require it, especially ad banner supported programs. Plus I figure it will be good practice. Now, how do I configure wine to emulate 98? I have used winesetuptk to have the look and feel of 98, is that right?
  21. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Lindows, Lycoris, or Xandros. They are (supposedly) the easiest to use, but I guess if you have to use something that close to windows you might as well just use windows.
  22. Well, there are 2 reasons. 1.) IE is required for many programs to run. 2.) It is practice, as you say.
  23. I don;t want to use it, I just need to install it. :P I have used both Wine and Winex andhave attempted to install various versions, but I can never get it to work. I either get an error saying it is already installed, which it is not, or I need a higher version of windows, or more often the installer simpler crashes saying something about a debugger. :o Any help would be appreciated.
