  1. Thanks, I got it installed ,by basically inserting a floppy into the floppy drive. I guess it doesn't matter, any old floppy will do...

The rest of the install went well then, it asked for the wrong CDs,(ie: asked for CD1, but really wanted CD2, etc) but once I figured that out, it was OK.

It finished up the install and runs fine,

    thanks for the info.

  2. I just bought Unreal Tournament 2003, after having read thru some of the posts

here, I see that it has a Linux installer on CD3.

I had to copy that installer to my hard drive in order to get it to work.

Now, it opens the installer, lets me set the install path, then asks for the

"play CD" to be mounted, but no matter what I do here, it doesn't see the

"play CD" (which I'm guessing is CD #1).

So I have to abort the install.

    Please HELP!!!

  3. it seems you know something noone else does.....

    Highly unlikely!

I just have wine 20021007, from cvs, compiled by doing

    ./tools/wineinstall

(in other words, I don't know which wine that is...)

If you don't already have it, you can get it like this:

    $ export CVSROOT=:pserver:cvs@cvs.winehq.com:/home/wine

    $ cvs login

*** The password is "cvs" ***

    $ cvs -z3 co wine

    ***to update:***

    $cvs update -dPA

Every once in a great while, I just get lucky!

    Hope this helps! Good luck.

  4. I just got lopster installed on Mandrake9, and it isn't working well at all...jeez, it used to work great when I had 8.2 but I don't think that's the problem, it just won't connect to any decent servers for whatever reason.

This will piss off some people, I know, but I just downloaded WinMX and installed it and ran it with wine, and it works perfectly. Quick connection, and over 400 replies to my search for Procal Harem's "Whiter Shade of Pale".

Why dontcha try THAT, ezroller?

  5. Here's what I had to do to make the "permissions too restrictive" error go

    away,(nVIDIA glx error)on Mandrake 9.

I tried commenting out the <dri> line in /etc/security/console.perms and then

doing the chmod 0666 /dev/nvidia* chown root /dev/nvidia*.

When I rebooted I got a serious error, and could not get into X or anything

    except console.

Then I had to restore the /console.perms file, with the backup I made, rebooted, and everything works

    fine now.

For some reason, it seems you DON'T have to edit the /console.perms file at all,

just do the chmod 0666 /dev/nvidia* chown root /dev/nvidia*.

Maybe one of you senior guys (I mean senior in EXPERIENCE with this sort of

thing) can explain why this is, unless it only works for me, in which case I am

totally without a clue. Come to think about it, I don't have any clue anyway!

  6. I don't know, it's been awhile since I used it.

A lot of time, the servers are pretty jammed up, and it can be hard to get on one.

Also a lot of them have "minimum shared' requirements you have to meet or you can't get on.

Just keep playing with it, sooner or later you'll get in to something, I'm sure.

  7. Using clean install of Mandrake9:

Every time I reboot, and go to run an openGL game (or glxgears) This error comes up:

Error: Could not open /dev/nvidiactl because the permissions

are too restrictive. Please see the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    section of /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/README for steps

    to correct.

All I need to do to fix this is log-out and login back to X and all is good.

OK, so I read the readme from nVIDIA and did the edit of the

    /etc/security/console.perms

only to hose up X completely, so I had no screen at all.

So that 'fix' in the readme, I guess, no longer applies.

Does anyone have a real solution to this?

Minor problem I know, but one shouldn't have to logout and login again to get this thing to work, agreed?

    Thanks in advance.

  8. If anyone has figured out how to make k3b work on Mandrake 9, please share your experience.

I tried compiling from source and RPM and neither works (for me).

The RPM has dependencies which conflict with already installed stuff, and the source builds into /opt and then doesn't work.
