Yes it does seem that way, let me explain, I don't remember where I found the info, but somewhere it said to reassign the partition or something like tha to solve the missing GRUB problem, well I got the GRUB back but lost my old user, like you said, anyhow I have already tried your suggestion yesterday and this is the output., My user name is wealthwise, and as far as TestDisk is concerned my directory is intact. I will post it here as soon as I can.

chown: cannot access `/home/wealthwise': No such file or directory would this command work better if it were done in root on LiveCD?
and this is what I get when I try to change to wealthwise from root
