  1. No output [root@localhost ~]# cd /home && ls [root@localhost home]#
  2. Yes it does seem that way, let me explain, I don't remember where I found the info, but somewhere it said to reassign the partition or something like tha to solve the missing GRUB problem, well I got the GRUB back but lost my old user, like you said, anyhow I have already tried your suggestion yesterday and this is the output., My user name is wealthwise, and as far as TestDisk is concerned my directory is intact. I will post it here as soon as I can. Thanks for the help [root@localhost ~]# chown -R wealthwise:users /home/wealthwise chown: cannot access `/home/wealthwise': No such file or directory would this command work better if it were done in root on LiveCD? and this is what I get when I try to change to wealthwise from root [root@localhost ~]# su wealthwise bash-3.1$
  3. I don't know how this could have happened but I had was using an xp install cd just to see if I could find some files on a vista partiton, and when I went to go back to grub it was gone, but to make matters worse I tried to fix the problem, somehow screwed up the boot partition and now I get the GUI but get Kstartupconfig error and can only login root through command line. (I know I shouldn't use root but, I don't have anything else. I have searched high and low for a solution but can't come up with one, can someone help me figure this out? Using Mandriva 2007 Spring Thanks
