Can't see why I have to do an update to include a standard item like
KPPP in my setup. The later failure of a manual installation of KPPP confirms the fact that there is something wrong with the CD.
Why else would I have to find replacement files to complete the
installation?
Despite this fact the md5sum check on the ISO says its OK!

Finally got it to work.
KPPP was not installed during original installation. When I try to install
kdenetwork-kppp-3.1-31mdk.i586.rpm directly from CD3 and asked for
dependency files
ppp-2.4.1-9mdk.i586.rpm
libpcap0-0.7.2-1mdk.i586.rpm
liblinux-atm1-2.4.0-2mdk.i586.rpm
from CD1 I get message the files are missing. When I later check the
CD the files are there, don't know why they can't be found!
Anyways, download all new files for KPPP from the web and install successfully.
Now I have KPPP and after setting it up and quering the modem I successfully connect!!!

When I right click can not find "New Launcher"
Find "Creat new/Link to Application" but can't find kppp in the list of applications.

What happened to my "Internet" icon ? Just installed ver 9.1 but can't find
the "Internet" icon I used to have in version 8.1. Can't find any other
reference to KPPP either!
Any help appreciated!

Realize now that I don't have the "Internet" icon pointing to kppp.
Was never there after installation. How can I recover it ?

Struggeling with this one. Mandrake ver 9.1 kernel 2.4.21-0.13
Found the RPM's for the modem:
ltmodem-kv_2.4.21_0.13mdk-8.26a9-1.i586.rpm and
ltmodem-kv_2.4.21_0.13mdk-8.26a6-1.i586.rpm
Have tried both, don't know which one woks.
RPM installs to /dev/tts/LT0 not to /dev/ttyLT0 as I read
Daniel Rees at http://users.ox.ac.uk/~mert1313/ltmodem.html
Changed link /dev/modem now pointing to /dev/tts/LT0
Set up PPP and try to connect, nothing happens.
In Mandrake 8.1 I could query modem, can't find similar control in
version 9.1
Appreciate any help with this one!
Staroffice shortcut?
in Software
Posted
Just installed Staroffice 6.0 but can't find any shortcut to the prgram
in my start meny. Can run program from /usr/staroffice/soffice but when I
try to move/copy (soffice) to the desktop (KDE 3.1) the shortcut does not work as expected. Instead of starting the application it goes into install mode for StarOffice!
Any help appreciated
