Thanks.
Yes, I understand.
'Main/Contrib', isn't obvious to me.
Again when I update media
MCC-> Install & Remove Software -> File -> Update Media ->1. Select All 2.Update
The backports get enabled !?
I uncheck the backports in the media selection and
installed a basic vlc.
vlc 0.9.3 2plf2009.0 x86_64, which also installs( dependency )
lib64vlc2 0.9.8a 1plf2009.0 x86_64 ( not the 2plf2009.0 with version 0.9.3 )
lib64vlccore0 0.9.8a 1plf2009.0 x86_64 ( not the 2plf2009.0 with version 0.9.3 )
Running vlc from the command line, I get the same error.
Actually 2 things now.
1). The vlc problem.
2) Why does update media enable backports ( low priority, maybe another thread )
//
-
Hi
Not there yet, but thanks for your time and help.
the libs
lib64vlc2
lib64vlccore0
Maybe explained by, that
1plf2009.0 x86_64 has version 0.9.8a
2plf2009.0 x86_64 has version 0.9.3
An older version in 2plf2009.0 than 1plf2009.0 ?
Removed the CD's and the duplicates.
When you say enable Main/Contrib update it's a bit unclear for me.
I have a selection of ::
Main
Main32
Main (Official2009.0-1)
Main32 (Official2009.0-3)
and their updates.
Contrib
Contrib ( Official2009.0-11)
and their updates.
Which ones do you mean ?
-
The manually edited list, I've removed all backport references that the 'update media' added.

I checked your files in my MCC -> Install & remove Software
The only ones that isn't matching are the libs, they are 3mdv2009 , yours are 2plf2009.
And these libs are the only visible ones in my MCC.
Tried with the 2plf2009 again, but got segmentation error.
Found out what enabled the backports.
MCC-> Install & Remove Software -> Update Media -> Select All -> Update
I didn't think that 'Select All' should add new 'medias' ??
//
-
So which version should I use ?
I've tried with .1 and plf and I get the same error.
Is there something else I can do except reinstall( even though I'm used to it when I upgrade ).

Using Xfce since KDE is to much of a mess right now and never got into gnome.
I Checked the repositories and yes I have backports enabled( how that happend I don't know ).
Is there a safe way to remove any packages loaded from the backports ?
The backports I hopefully can remove by uncheck them in MCC.

I have similar problems with the resolution, but with a ATI card( another thread )
and a x86_64 2009.0.
I can get a 1280x1024 for a session, with the KDE4 menu( System Tools -> Configure your desktop -> Display )
KRandRRTray from the menu, never starts.for me, it tries for a while then dies.
Have tried to become a member of mandriva.com 2 times
with 2 different mailadresses, can still not log on to their site.
But I do get their different mandriva announcements from time to time to those adresses.
Have tried to contact them through their official contact, but to no avail.

Eizo Flexscan F77
From the manual :
max resolution 1600x1200 77MHz
Recommended 1280x1024 88 MHz
Used this monitor with 2007.0 at 1280x1024.
OffTopic
As root the perl command monitor-edid hangs.
The binary monitor-get-edid-using-vbe hangs when called from monitor-edid.
monitor-get-edid-using-vbe hangs when run from the command line as well.

AFAIK the "server" kernel does not work with the proprietary nvidia driver, and the same could appply for the ATi one.
Do you really need using the "server" kernel?
"Do I really need ... ?"
Probably not, casue I've choosen approximately the same packages to install
as previous times.
( I don't care so much what kernel I get as
long as it doesn't give me to big problems).
So it's probably the change in the install scripts/perl's thats given me a server kernel ( 4G DDRAM).
So this a known graphics resolution error(?),functionality in the 'server' kernel ?
I think I have a *kernel-mnb* ( whatever that is ) at startup I'll try with that one and also check for
other kernels in the repository.
Interesting that KDE4 can change the resolution during a session,
so it should be possible for the 'whatever admin process' to do it.
Thanks for the ideas Scarecrow
//
-
Hi
Thanks for your time.
More problems
I can't make the change stick.
The resolution is 'restored' to the low resolution when I log out and log in.
So KDE4 can make a session change of the resolution.

Installed 2009.0
Linux localhost 2.6.27.5-server-2mnb.
I have a ATI 2400 pro card and Eizo F77 screen
The xorg log says it did find the chipset
and screen.
The screen is initially set to 640x480.
Tried to change the resolution with
Control Center -> Hardware -> Set up graphical server.
Made the changes
Logged out nothing changed, restarted nothing changed, still 640x480
Removed the radeon enties from xorg.conf and replaced them
with a setup that worked with 2007.1
Nothing changed.
Any changes I made did not stick.
Looking through the menues I found
Tools->System Tools -> configure your desktop.
And there it was possible to change the resolution and make it stick.
Still my Login screen is in the 'old' resolution ?
How can I change resolution on the login screen ?
//
PS
First time I clicked MCC-Hardware ->Browse and configure hardware.
I was asked to download and install packages.
Sholdn't they be install by default ?
DS
-
Easiest way is if someone here know how to remove
the "The system keeps pestering me to upgrade to 2009.0"- issue.
In my case upgrades has always( 3 times ) meant I'd have to
reinstall it from scratch due to ugrade issues.
And that was without the kde3 to kde4 conversion.
//
-
I'm using neither, removed the searchplugins directory from the firefox directory.
The paranoids search engine.
www.scroogle.org
//
-
Had similar problems on my sons computer an old motherboard.
In our case it was the battery.
Probably not your problem as you have a rather fresh mobo.
But anyway as a last resort. :-)
Started with kernel panics on memory 0x.......
Then the winXP login screen took longer and longer time
to start( no linux on this machine ).
Then it booted the bios screen instead of the Winlogin screen.
Changed battery and everything works OK now.
//
-
grep -n searchstring FILENAME
//
-
Maybe I misunderstood it but, doesn't 'init 3' as su in a console do the trick.
Or are trying to hack the rc scripts ?
//
-
Had some 'ps' problems as user when I changed security level from the default at installation of 2007.1.
//
-
Tried with radeon , didn't work at all.
Works best with fbdev, whatever that is.
OK for me right now.
In HardDrake - hardware,the card shows up as
ATI Technologies In.
Unknown
VGA compatible controler.
So it seems this card isn't open-sourced yet.
Will try with proprietary ATi driver later.
But Ontopic again :
I'll try with these settings(fbdev) to see if kdm crashes.
Thanks for the halp.

Hi
Discovered one problem with VESA.
Whenever I switch to a console screen<CTRL><ALT>-F1 and switch back to the GUI screen <CTRL><ALT>-F7.
The colors are messed up really bad.
Is there a reload 'Working environment' ??
//
-
OK, take your time, but you shouldn't have any real issues with the vesa driver. However, if you mention which videocard you have, we might find a driver which will have a better overall performance, especially when coming to 3D abilities and composite effects.
Hi
As ususal my phrasing is a bit off the mark,.
I meant waiting for the the kde shutdowns, not to check the vesa setup.
Card ?
HD 2400 Pro ATI
//
-
Hi
Yes,cut and paste error.
Changed from "fbdev" to "vesa" and restarted.
Have to run it a few days to verify if the problem is still there.
Yes , I'm missing the english keyboard, but I cope with the swedish layout
( not the only user ),
My monitor wasn't recognized , I changed that with the sys hardwarre config tool.

Ok
Done exactly as you said.
basic install of vlc 0.9.3 2plf2009.0
Same error.
basic install of vlc 1plf2009.0
same error
basic install of 2mdv2009.0
Sme error and the same libs.
Soit seems that the backport has replaced the original libs ?
