  1. Thanks for your reply.

I tried another mirror and its working now.

    I have another question:

Websites like youtube or other websites offers to view videos online on the browser itself. Is it possible to do that in linux on firefox? I tried, it brings up mplayer but it stops responding as soon as it loads.

    Any suggestions?

You may want to update your urpmi databaseI got the similar error for mplayer.

I got the similar error for mplayer.

    Any thought?

For gcc, go into the install software, search for gcc, and install the package. You can find it in System/Configure/Packaging.

    Alternatively, from command line:

    urpmi gcc

    to install it.

    When I say "urpmi gcc"

    it says

    no package named gcc

    I hope that helps.

I also downloaded gcc package from internet. I dont know how to install it.

    Thanks a lot.

  4. Hi,

I have installed mandriva with Mandriva ONE CD.

I installed it as a dual boot with WIN-XP.

I am experiencing few problems. Please guide me.

    1. If I login as root in the shell(bash) and type mount, it shows me 3 mounted devices:

    a) ext3 b) ext3 and c) CD-ROM, the problem is, it DOESN"T even show NTFS partition. Please suggest me what should I do.

    2. I read somewhere that typing sudo will give me some more info. I typed 'sudo' and it says "sudo: command not found". I typed in "which sudo", it says "sudo not found".

    3. When I go to configure, it shows that GCC is installed. When I come to the shell and type "gcc", it says "gcc:command not found". when i type "which gcc", it says "gcc not found". Please help.

    Thanks.

  5. Thanks for ur suggestion. It worked out great.

As I am new to linux so I have some irritating questions:

    1. I booted my system(512 MB RAM) from USB (2 GB) using virtual city. It loads perfectly. I configured my wireless connection, it worked beautifully. The only problem is that when I reboot the system from the same USB, all the setting are gone ....i.e. I have to reconfigure EVERY SINGLE THING. Am I missing something?

    2. I have the intel graphic card, so 3D desktop should work but it gives me some errors when I follow the steps. After that it goes to console mode (when I say end session, during the process) and when I type KDE on console it doesn't load KDE and gives me some more error messages.

    3. I want to work on C++ using VIM editor. It doesn't have G++. I tried installing it from software install but it still doesn't work at all.

    Please help.

  6. I just need some info about the Mandriva on USB.

    Questions:

Do I need to buy it or I can download it free also (USB Version)?

Is it same as CD version (Mandriva One)?

Is it possible to boot the system from the USB (like we have an option of booting from CD-ROM)?

Will the mandriva from USB be able to see files in WIN XP hardrive of the system?

    Thanks a lot.

  7. Another question:

To install mandriva on my system, do I need to download all three CDs from their website?

    i.e. http://www.mandriva.com/en/download/free

My only worry is that, they keep on saying "trial"...so i am confused whether its a "trial" version or comeplete version on which, if I save some setting it will stay the way I saved them OR they will change on every reboot.

If I download the whole package from their site then will I be able to install it the way Windows XP is?

    Thanks.

  8. However the original question was about running Mandriva One from CD. You do know, that nothing is saved back to the CD, don't you? So if you run from CD, and then add your g++ compiler, then it'll work, but when you reboot from the CD it'll be gone again. That could be annoying for you, depending on how often you're using it.

Thanks all for the replies. They were really helpful.

Neddie: You are right that I have to do it everytime I reboot my system.

I have windows XP on my system. Is it possible to make it dual boot and install mandriva also? How much space mandriva require? And can I access my windows files from mandriva if I install mandriva(with windows as a dual boot)? Also, will my wireless card (internet connection) work in madriva?

I know I am asking a lot of question, but I am confused about what should I do.

    Thanks a lot guys.

  9. I am very new to linux and started working on a C++ project.

I am tyring to use mandrak one CD on my laptop (with windows Xp on it) by running through CD-ROM. Mandrake doesn't have g++ compiler in it. Can anybdy help me with that....like where to get it? do i have to pay for it? and ofcourse how to install it?

    Thanks a lot guys.
