  1. I recently installed Mozilla 3.1, but I can't view videos (Quicktime, Realplayer).

    In "About Plugins" in the Help section of Mozilla, the mplayer-plugin v0.60 is listed as installed, but if I try to view a video, I'm told I need to install the plugin

    I installed Mozilla with the tar.gz from their site as per the accompanying readme file

    How do I make Mozilla aware of the plugin?

  2. I've been using the Epox 8K3AE (KT333) for about a month now and I'm very happy with it. It's coupled to a XP 1800 which is not overclocked and serves my purposes.

    As far as I can tell from reviews of this board, I'm not using it to it's full potential re overclocking, gaming, etc, but I can't be bothered with that unless performance is lacking, which it isn't.

    I noticed a huge performance increase over my previous setup, Aopen KT133 board with K6 400 cpu, but that's to be expected

  3. I tried it a few weeks ago, but it didn't pick up my modem or sound card. As far as I can see, there's no where to manually configure, except maybe console, which I'm not too good at.

    They had a forum, but it's been closed until the final release comes out.

    So, in short, it's just sitting on my computer until I figure out how to use it

  4. Go to KDE Contol Centre (if you're using KDE), look in System, Login Manager.

    Under "Users" tab, see if you have Root checked as a hidden user. If so, uncheck it so it will show up as an option in your login screen.

    However, using root like this is potentially dangerous. As stated in a previous post, the best way to use root is su/password in a console

  5. I recently replaced my mboard, cpu and video card in one go. I let Mandrake loose on the new equipment and everything was detected and set up without my intervention. ( VIA KT333, XP1800, 440MX)

    Maybe I was just lucky, but I figured the worst thing that could happen, I would have to reinstall. It's only software, right?

    On the other hand, backing up is always a good idea

  6. I just installed RedHat 8 alongside Mdk to try it out, but I can't get the sound to work. The sound module is not starting at bootup. The sound chip is detected correctly (AC '97 onboard on VIA KT-333 chipset). I think RH is loading the wrong module.

    Sound works fine in Mdk 9.0 but there it's using a different module

    Anyone know how to tweak sound settings in RH? I can't find anything like MCC where you can select a different card/driver

  7. Finally, after three abortive attempts, rc5 up and running! I used the rpms from http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/mandrak...e-3.1-rc5/RPMS/

    I couldn't get it to work with Texstar's, but I know other people did, so maybe it's a system thing.

    Only thing that's not working is Krusader, my file manager. Starting it in the console gives me this message:

    WARNING: Mt.Man: Born, looking around to get familiar.

    QMetaObject::findSignal:ListPanel: Conflict with KVFSPanel::signalStatus(QString)

    QMetaObject::findSignal:ListPanel: Conflict with KVFSPanel::signalStatus(QString)

    Anybody know what this means?

  8. Well I tried it again last night, before I read the last two posts about the noarch files and ended up without a functional desktop, as before. I'm now back to 3.0.5 (getting good at this).

    I'll try again with the latest information. Maybe this time :roll:

  9. The KDE3.0.5 install went smoothly and I have all my programs and functionality back - makes me happy

    I'm willing to have another go at 3.1 (it's just a computer, right?), I'll post again after work for details on how to go about it

  10. I used Texstars rpms and no, I didn't unload .kde before. I've since done the whole thing over (details here http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=2000)

    but there are still problems.

    Kpackage won't uninstall programs and still lists them as installed even after I've deleted them with urpme.

    Krusader won't work, desktop fonts look terrible, plus a few other little things.

    I'll wait until KDE3.1 becomes official

    Thanks for the 3.05 link

  11. I'm having various problems with KDE 3.1rc5 which I don't feel up to tackling at this stage. I had 3.04 before and it was pretty stable. What I want to do is uninstall 3.1, then install 3.05.

    I jumped in the deep end installing 3.1 without asking advice and with limited information. The result was Mdk reinstall.

    So, I'm now asking advice, how would I go about wiping out 3.1 putting in 3.05?

    Also where are the 3.05 rpms?
