  1. Thanks for all the input ............ from what I have been reading I will not join the club, but I might buy the full powerpack at a later stage simply becasue it is supporting the guys that put in tons of hours of work and I will gladly rather pay the $50 for Mandriva than the $200 for Windows XP.

  2. I have Mandriva 2007 free on my hard drive, I downloaded some programs from the internet ...eg Google Earth for linux....how do I install this program ?

Also how do I get codecs for Totem movie player ? I want to watch some video clips of mine but it says it can not play the file because I do not have the codecs for Media player 9 video clips.

Also another stupid question, how do i make a short cut of a file to my desktop ?

Under "Home" I have a file called Documents, I want a short cut to be on my desktop.

    Thanks

  3. You should have a line in your /etc/fstab looking like

    /dev/sda7 /windows ntfs defaults 0 0

(replace sda7 with the actual partition number).

If you want that partition to be fully accessible by your current user, set a user id for that one:

    /dev/sda7 /windows ntfs uid=1000,defaults 0 0

It does not give me the option to change the actual partition number, it only ask if I want to save ot not.

  4. Go back into MCC and this time set the mountpoint to simply /windows and not to usr/windows

then click mount and to question as to save settings to fstab click yes.

Think you will have better success.

    Cheers. John.

Thanks, did that but still the same problem ............ "Could not enter folder /windows"

  5. I clicked on the windows partition, then I put in a mount point "usr/windows" and then I mounted it.

Now in devices it shows my 80G IDE hard drive but I cant access it.

    It says "cannot enter folder"

I must have done something wrong ..................

Here is another question ...........can I some how do something in windows so that I can see my Linux hard drive ?

I just need to move my files that is on my windows hard drive over to my linux hard drive.

  6. I installed Mandriva 2007 on my SATA Hard drive (no raid) and I have two IDE Hard drives, one has Windows XP on it and the other is just a back up drive.(no OS)

How do I mount these in Mandriva so that I can move files between Mandriva and Windows ?

    easiest way possible please :)

    Thanks

  7. I am considering joining the Mandriva Linux Users Club because I am sick of Windows and want to completely convert to linux.

Was wondering if it is worth spending $12 a month on that.

I want to buy the Full Mandriva 2007 simply because I want as much software as possible so that I have no need to go back to windows.

you can download most of it through the club if you are a member but that is also way more expensive than just to buy the boxed version, but then on the other hand you do get support which I might need since I dont have much Linux experience.

any idea if joining the club is worth it ??

    Thanks

  8. I installed Mandriva 2007 but it is very slow to boot up, takes at least 5 min from pressing the start button till I see the log-on screen.

Thought this was suppose to be a faster bootup ??

Also everything seems to work fine but I just cant get an internet connection :(

  9. I installed Mandriva 2007 free on my computer.

I am unable to conncet to the internet with my DSL

I had Mandrake 8 on the same computer before and had no problem connecting to the internet with the same service provider.

I tried almost every option .. PPPOA, PPPOE, TCP/IP and so on, nothing will connect.

I have been at this for over 4 hours now with no luck

What setting am I suppose to use ?

    Thanks
