  1. Hi,

i just got my new MX 3200 keyboard / mouse and i set down and tried to configure the multimedia keys

after a lot of time (i'm a newb) and by using and defining the lineak software most of the functions i want work great

but still some stuff i can't understand:

    1. there are some keys which i can't see in xev (like "voip answer" or "voip hangup")

    2. some different keys give me the same keycode

    3. how can i activate the show desktop command by shell ?

now i'll try to make the etxra buttons on my mouse work :)

    thanks,

    noluck

  2. about the first advice:

All you need is to have your repo's set up, with the non-free repo's as well, and install the nvidia dkms stuff, then run Xfdrake. If you have the PowerPack version of Mandriva, it will be included on the disk.

i have no idea what you said :) i'm new to linux :(

can you explain it so i can understand please, what is: repo's, dkms, Xfdrake and i think i have Mandriva Free edition.

when i try to run the shell code you gave me i get this:

    no package named dkms-nvidia

my easy-urpmi is updated (i think) because i've selected a new one a week ago :(

but still what can i do ?

  3. when i'm trying to install Nvidia drivers i'm getting this message:

ERROR: You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before
installing. For further details, please see the section INSTALLING
THE NVIDIA DRIVER in the README available on the Linux driver
    	 download page at www.nvidia.com.

    the commands i'm running are:

     $chmod +x NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.19-pkg2.run
    $./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.19-pkg2.run

i have no idea what it means and i tried to go to nvidia.com and couldn't understand what i need to do :)

i just want to change the resolution to 12809*1024 :(

    thanks,

    igotnoluck

  5. Hello,

i have a couple of questions about the Easy-Urpmi installation and using, every thing i'm trying to install tell's me i'm missing a lib (each one tell's me about a different one)

and second Question : someone told me i can use the urpmi command as a remote missing lib retriver (like yum)

how do i use it ? using the urpmi -p ?

    thanks,

    nimrod

    nv_sata : secondery device removed

    ...

    ata 2 : dev 0 configured for UDMA / 133

    Model: WDC-WD1600JS-22M (My internal HD)

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    error 6: mounting ext2

    ...

    kernel panic

    please help :wall:

  15. it happens right after the LILO, then i see a picture of pinguin and the writings says "FREE" and there is a loading bar (empty one) then it just freeze until i push ESC then it gives me the error.

i want to remind you that the error is on the internal HD and not the External which is where i installed the Mandriva.

maybe i need to tell the program (i don't know how) that the place to keep data (or log) is on the External HD ??? :wall:

  16. about the LIVECD problem I'm less worried, but thanks anyway.

for the full installation problem, i don't know how to take a picture of the problem if it's freeze ? (maybe you can tell how) i will try now to install the 2007 version and maybe it will solve the problem.

but the error code is 6, and that's it writes that it can't write to log

  17. hello everybody,

well I'm a beginner in Linux world (2 days) and i downloaded Mandriva free 2006 (DVD version) & Mandriva LIVE 2007, when i tried to work with the Live version it loads to the shell screen but with errors and no GUI or something like that, what did i do wrong ?

the second thing is that the 2006 version i want to install on my external USB 2.0 device (160 GB maxtor) i formatted it to ext2f (size 14.5 GB) and i began to install Mandriva, in the bootloader i chose the Boot from sdb (or something like that) which is my External HD, but after the restart i See the LILO, choose Linux and then it's loading and freeze but when i click ESC it shows me an error log for the first (internal) HD ?

what did i do wrong ?? :wall:

i forgot to add 2 things:

    1. im now downloading the free 2007 DVD version

    2. i'm sorry for my bad english :P
