Hello to everybody! Two years ago I already signed a membership there and I received frequent update notifications by e-mail. Due to moving circumstances I didn't renew the subscription. Being now in my new home I subscribed again for € 19,95 to Mandrake online. in order to receive actual update announcements. But nothing happens, the money is gone but no reply on my mails to Mandriva. Just silence. Is there something changed? BTW, I run now Mandriva Linux Limited Edition 2005, before I worked with Mandrake 10.1 CE. Many thanks in advance Best regards /Reinhard

Hi to everybody! Sometimes, as OO loads very slow, I use KWrite to write some lines, also I use KMail (inside Kontact) and KNode to communicate. Last week I was writing a new message to a news group using KNode and I asked to spell check the whole thing. It worked strange, as I forgot to adjust the proper language setting inside KNode's settings. So I opened the configure settings inside KNode and went to spell check and saw a looooooooooong list of dictionaries to chose from. The drop down list contains 68 different dictionaries, whereof I installed only 6 of them (English, German, French, Spanish, Russian and Swedish) during MDK 10 installation. So I tried to find wherefrom the the long list comes, and I succeeded in '/usr/lib/aspell/' where the whole list of dictionaries (which is 1:1 shown in the spell check settings) is stored. I wonder now which of them I really need. If I look into the directory I find even versions of i.e. French for Switzerland (file names like fr_CH-40.multi, fr_CH-60.multi, etc.) and I really don't need them and don't want them to be displayed in the spell check settings. Any hints which of them I can get rid of? Is it enough to delete (or better move) them? Thanks in advance. /Reinhard

Hi! I tried your suggestion but it didn't work. But I found now another workaround: Instead using the layout ru_yawerty I use now the standard Russian (ru) layout and use the subvariant phonetic (see button in the corner down right). That does pretty the same as ru_yawerty. Thanks for the hints. Regards /Reinhard

Hi again devries! Thanks a lot, I got the same result as you. The thing is that I don't want the layout 'Russian (ru)', I need the other one, the 'Russian (phonetic cyrillic) (ru_yawerty)', which is more convenient, as it generates the same characters as on my latin keyboard. If I use the suggested (ru) type and press 'asdf' I get in (ru): '????', which means translated into latin 'f soft v a' (the '?' is a softmaker). But I would like to see '????', since this corresponds to the latin (pronunciation). If I use the 'Russian (phonetic cyrillic) (ru_yawerty)' I get the earlier described error in the task bar and my Swedish layout is still going on. So I suppose I have to edit the keyboard's config file for 'Russian (phonetic cyrillic) (ru_yawerty)' in order to make it work. Do you have an idea where it's stored in the file system? Hi to everybody! Recently I upgraded from MDK 9.1 to 10.0 and everything is fine so far. There is an old issue, which I couldn't solve nor under 9.1 neither with the 10.0 version: Writing with cyrillic (Russian) characters inside KDE 3.2. I use a Swedish keyboard layout and want to write in KDE (Open Office, KOffice, Kmail, Konqueror and Mozilla) with cyrillic characters. The character set is AFAIK according ISO-8859-5. I do not want to write in the Terminal mode, just inside KDE and KDE-based applications. During the MDK-install I installed everything available in Russian, so the character sets and the help files. Yesterday, when playing with the settings I managed to get all windows displayed (I couldn't write) in Russian, which I changed back to Latin characters, as I'm not capable reading and writing in Russian - it's for my wife. I tried to switch the keyboard layout to Russian (phonetic), but this option is not possible inside the KDE-control center; the Russian keyboard layout is grey and not working. I only get in the taskbar a small grey icon saying 'err' with bold small letters. Usually, using the Swedish layout, it says 'se', which is correct. So I tried something weired: The Georgian layout, which I did not install (as far as I know) and it worked fine. I got a lot od strange characters (some mixture between Thai and Hebrew), but at least it does something. I want to have everything (menues etc.) in Latin letters, I only want to be able to write in Russian sometimes, just by switching the keyboard layout. I read a lot of google articles but they mainly deal with the total russification of a western machine, not very helpful. BTW: In Windows I solved the problem by using a small external software which shows me a small keyboard in the foreground when writing cyrillic. But this machine I will return end of the year, so I must find an appropriate solution for Linux. What's wrong here? Any help is appreciated. Best regards /Reinhard

Hello devries! Thank you so much, it works again! After following your suggestions I opened the konqueror and received an error message saying that file ~/.kde/share/config/konquerorrc can't be saved due to missing permissions. Hi everyone! Yesterday night I tried to listen to streaming audio with Konqueror and Mozilla. I use MDK 10.0 Official. Unfortunately the links to the radio stations could not be opened inside the browsers so I used the RealPlayer G2 (command: 'realplay' in a terminal window, the one which is installed automatically by MDK). So I stored the URL-links as an icon on my KDE-desktop and I could open them with RealPlayer G2. But I had been not 100% satisfied, I wanted to get special icons for the sound files. One of the links was a *.smil type, the other one of type *.rm. The *.smil type looked good and I kept it as it was created by KDE. For the *.rm type I tried to change the properties, changed the icon and the MIME-type. After pressing OK in the properties window I saw a small box popping up that the system settings are going to be updated. After that I tried to open a normal homepage (*.shtml) but Konqueror didn't do anything, it just opened it's window and did not open the URL. Instead of opening my preferred start-URL, it took a random one from the history file, but did not open it. After pressing Return it asked me if I want to open the desired URL, I said Yes and then hundreds of windows opened. I stopped everything by Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. I tried it several times, but always the same. So I tried to restore the MIME-settings but it didn't work finally. So my Konqueror is now inapplicable. Mozilla by the way is still fine and running. How can I repair Konqueror or whatever is wrong? I looked by means of the packetmanager into the dependencies and found using rpm I have to uninstall nearly the whole KDE and re-install it again. That sounds like getting rid of Outlook Express in Windoze!? Sounds like a mission impossible. Any hints/suggestions? Many thanks in advance from Sweden. /Reinhard

Hi to everyone! I'm quite new with Linux and run Mandrake 9.1. So far so good, nearly no problems but one: the keyboard. I use a Compaq Internet Keyboard (18 keys). The primary layout is set to Swedish and the variant to 'basic' (tried even the variant 'nodeadkeys'. As a second layout I use Russian (phonetic), which works fine so far. Using the Swedish keyboard layout has the problem, that I can't use some signs as I would like to do. So I played a bit around with xmodmap and modified the xmodmaprc file and copied it to my /home directory. There I start it manually every time after startup. Question no. 1: Where do I have to put that file in order to run it after startup automatically (like in DOS in Autoexec.bat)? I had the problems that the tilde ~, the ü (udiaeresis) and the Ü (Udiaeresis) didn't show up at all. Usually, under Win 98SE, it comes by pressing the diaeresis key ¨, which then stops and waits for the next character to be typed and voila, I have an ü or an Ü or any other character needing a diaeresis sign. That didn't work at all, whatever I tried, so I re-defined the xmodmaprc file and put the ü and the Ü on the free places at j and J respectively (in combination with AltGr and Shift-AltGr). It's not that comfortable, but it works so far. The tilde ~ also appears (as a free-standing character) now after renaming it to asciitilde. Question no. 2: How do I have to modify above mentioned file in order to make the ´, `, ~, ¨ and ^ work for me? But, what's really annoys is: When I want to write spanish or french texts, I can't get the ´ and the ` and the tilde ~ and the ^ bring to work. Even these characters I need to have in combination with vowels or the tilde ~ above an n for spanish texts. Any help is appreciated. Best regards from Sweden. /Reinhard
