  1. Hi. I need to add some more repositories because some of the packages that I want to get have requirements that don't exist in the mandriva official reps or the PLF free and non-free reps. In short, does anyone know of a good place to find a list of reps that I should add or just have any yourself that you'd like to share with me. I have gotten by so far with what I can find on the ones from the URPMI tool on this page but I am looking to get ahold of some more that have other/updated packages. Thanks. Mainly I am looking for different/better rpms of lsongs, mplayer/mencoder/acidrip/dvdrip etc. It's prob just me but I want to see if I can find anything else.

  2. I can't install DVDRip from urpmi because it says this:

    Sorry, the following package(s) can't be selected:

    Video-DVDRip-0.97.6-0.1.20060plf.i586 (due to unsatisfied perl(Gtk2::Ex::FormFactory)[>= 0.58])

    I looked and found that I have perl-Gtk2-1.083-2mdk installed. I don't know if it is the same thing but it is annoying. Why would they put a package in a repository unless it had its deps available too. Is it possible that the packages DVDRip is looking for ARE there but they're called something different (maybe a misplaced hyphen or something.) I figure its standardized but come on...

    Anyway, any help would be great

    Thank you.

  3. I am trying to use acidrip to rip and encode two of my dvds into xvid with subtitles. When I start the the 2pass encode I immediately get this:

    AcidRip message - Pushed events onto queue

    AcidRip message - Playlist contains 4 item(s)

    AcidRip message - Running unlink frameno.avi 2> /dev/null

    AcidRip message - Removing frameno.avi if it exists

    I don't know what this is about CPU runtime detection.

    I am using mandriva 2006 2.6.12-22mdk

    I got my packages from urpmi:

    acidrip-0.14-2mdk

    mplayer-1.0-1.pre7.20051220.0.1.20060plf

    mencoder-1.0-1.pre7.20051220.0.1.20060plf

    I seem to remember having run into this problem in the past but I can't remember if I fixed it or just forgot about it. Any help would be great. Thanks!

  4. after perusing some other posts found by putting my error through google I believe my problem is related to PyKDE and/or PyQT. I am in the process of tracking down all their deps and trying to get them to work together and then I'll retry lsongs. I'm probably just breaking a bunch of stuff though

    http://forum.linspire.com/viewtopic.php?p=...5b2ab19bfaca3e7

    this poster on linspire seemed to have the same problem and the reply stated that PyKDE was needed.

    I found one that looked like it would work on rpmfind since it's not in any of the mandriva reps. But now I'm hitting a ton of dep issues. Anyway...

    EDIT:

    I can't figure it out. Is anyone using Lsongs out there that has similar setup on their machine?

  5. I did the updates a few days ago, just to verify I checked and it said there are no available updates. I have all the sources on easyurpmi.zarb.org set up and it was from on of those that I originally downloaded lsongs. I also individually verified that the exact versions of each of those packages you stated were present and they are.

  6. thanks, we'll see how it goes in a few minutes. Right now it's downloading the crapload of devel packages it says it needs.

    I did:

    [root@dora ben]# rpm -qa | grep kdecore

    libkdecore4-3.4.2-31.3.20060mdk

    [root@dora ben]# urpmi libkdecore4-devel

    and then had to choose between a few different packages and download a ton of others. So we'll see in a min.

  7. Hi.

    I downloaded Lsongs (lsongs-0.1.0-0.b24.2mdk) from one of the public Mandriva mirrors and it installed without a hitch...i think (i didn't get any errors), but when I try to run it from the menu it looks like it's starting and then dies. When I try it from Konsole I get:

    [ben@dora ~]$ lsongs

    Traceback (most recent call last):

    File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/Lsongs/lsongs", line 13, in ?

    from kdeemul import *

    File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/Lsongs/kdeemul.py", line 6, in ?

    from kdecore import *

    ImportError: No module named kdecore

    [ben@dora ~]$

    Does anyone know what this is about? kdecore? hmmm...

    I am new and have grown to treat all "modules" the same and I tried "modprobe kdecore" as root but Konsole said it doesn't know what that is and then told me to go to bed hungry.

    I'm using Mandriva Free 2006 2.6.12-12mdk with KDE 3.4.2

    any help would be terrif. thanks in advance.

  8. I thought about this and decided that I wanted something that could have full function for basic pc tasks (web browsing, etc) although i know crt tv is awfully blury, i also thought it would be neat to eventually upgrade the gpu/cpu to do some 3d gaming and pvr work...just want to keep my options open- but for now I want to establish the base system and get comfortable enough with it's reliabilty to do what I most what it to (playback dvd/divx/mp3, etc.)

  9. I am itching desperately to build a system to sit under my tv and house my xvid/divx collection for playback via analog tv-out. I have a couple questions as to the viabilty of using mdv 2006 as the OS. I have googled around quite a bit but it's painful going from one obscure 3 year old forum post to another...

    has anyone attempted this, (i'm sure you have)

    basically all i want this system to do is house the files for playback at reasonable quality and be controlled either via RF kb/m or remotely via tightvnc from windows. does anyone have any advise as to a media manager osd like freevo? i would like to use my ati rw2 if that's possible. the basic specs:

    celeron d 315 2.2ghz

    asus p4v8x-mx mobo (audio, lan, sata, raid, etc)

    sapphire radeon 9250 w/ tv-out

    2x 200gb sata hd raid 0

    no monitor...just tv out and remote manage via tightvnc

    i guess what i'm asking is if mdv 2006 would be suited for this kind of stuff...or does anyone know of a linux that purely designed for media center control via tv screen like windows mce and whatnot. i think freevo on top of mdv would be just fine but have little experience and need something suitable. i don't need the machine to do any encoding or 3d, just playback my xvids/mp3/dvds full screen with good picture/audio.
