  1. I know windows is prone to virus's,worms and various forms of attack but there are many steps that can be taken that can prevent many of these. Most virus's can be stopped by a simple plan of virus protection and detection.

2 yrs ago our company purchase a hardware fireward by cisco and we purchased a mcafee virus detection software we run on each server aswell as an Exchanged email plugin that scans every email that comes in and each workstion has virus detection software installed. We updated virus definitions onces a day on the servers and once a week on the workstations. In those 2 yrs I can count only 2 virus's that got in and they never really caused alot of dmg. The sql slammer that went around never affected us.

It's my personal opinion many times when a company get's hit hard by a virus, worm or many other forms of attacks/hacks tends to fall in poor planning and front line protection. In this day and age no matter the OS you have to be very proactive when it comes to network security and where I work my job is on the line if any of our data was to get lost or stolen. After all it's my job to make sure within all possible means to do my best to secure our network and the data. Granted you can't always prevent everything but many times people get hit when they could have easily prevented it with a good network security plan in place.

Anyways just my opinions granted may differ on what others think..:)

  2. Well we have one pc at the house other then my testing pc.. and since we have 2 kids no spare room atm till we build a new house.. So until then it's 1 pc for me and her to share..:) She did have her own pc setup with Suse but that pc finally bit the dust and well ya know no room and no desire to get a new one. Probably get myself a nice alienware laptop soon though..

  3. Well based on the email I received well after I think 2 emails he basically said if you are using the .24 kernel either switch to the secure kernel or downgrade to .18. He didn't suggest that anyone run that kernel so I found my .18 kernel/source and welp went back to it..:) Ya see my wife uses the pc aswell and I really don't need her in their and then having a ton of files world readable..:)

  4. I will agree definately agree that it's buggy..:) I think they are tweaking on the draktools and their internal stuff which may be why the isntaller which apears to be the same doesn't let me choose indivual packages..:) Oh well I sent in what bugs I found and will waite for beta 2 and try it on my test system..:)

  5. Eh the installer is definately buggy..:) I should have lots of things to send to MDK today..:)

Major thing I found and would be curious if others have this issue. When you get to the package group selection phase and click "Individual Package Selection" and click next can you select and deselect individual packages such as open office and so forth..

  6. Well so far I have noticed new packages for things like mozilla, evolution,Openoffice and such..Nothing major that I have tried or noticed yet..:) Although the installer was a tad buggy for me.. Tried the pick and choose packages install and I couldn't select nor deselect individual packages..Other then that I haven't noticed much difference and it comes with KDE 3.1.3...:)

  7. Well this release actually has some updated material...Well some apps are current and what not. Although I would love to see 9.2 released with gnome 2.4...:) I have been using gnome lately and I am actually starting to like it.. Seems to be faster then kde and seems to be abit more simplistic.

  8. As far as I know I have found only 1 mdk clone.. But it's just that a clone 3 cd's to download and only a few additional apps added.. It's called EduLinux. Other then that I have yet to see a true MDK that is a single cd or a 2 cd install. Would be an interesting project to produce a single cd install of mdk without all the server software and such.

  9. I dunno I follows the guide gave you and I can open cd's and eject em and all..LIfe is grand.. You might waite abit hopefully in the next week or so tex will update the kdebase package and add the supermount desktop icon support back in.
