This is what I have installed. I'm trying to get compiz running with the 3desktop etc..

I have had it going before but somehow broke it.

I'm just not getting anywhere by myself and now seek some real wisdom on this topic.

    Any advice appreciated.

I have downloaded a series 7xxx and 9xxx driver from nvidia but upon install it complians about nvidia.ko and gcc.

    And fails.

    Any ideas oh mighty ones??

  2. I have always found it best to use the linux driver from the Nvidia site.

My Geforce 440mx works fine with it. No Gl probs at all either.

I can also hook it to my TV. The Nvidia drivers have nice tweaking tools to get the picture to fill the TV nicely.

Now I just need to get my CS running in lin instead of win.

Hey George you should get mandriva 2007 and slap on the 3d desktop.

    It's a gem.

  3. I just installed mandriva from the four cd's. I'm a current suse user and i have a lot of a dificulty installing the nv driver. I downloaded the .run package and when i login as root in a console,,run the installer i get this:Kernel sources not installed. Aren't they on the medium??

I couldn't fuind them. Please help.

Hey George, I had this problem. Here's what I did.

goto console and type 'uname -r'

This will give you the kernel you have running.

Thus now you know which source to get.

If you haven't got URPMI setup, follow the directions here - EASY-URPMI

Once you have the URPMI setup, pull down your source, it can be stripped too I think. But I always get the big one incase.

Then do the init 3 thing with the sh .NV

    And Voila!.

Hope this is of some help.

    Im still fairly noob

  4. Hi I am looking for some info on how to get my TVout (SVideo) to turn on under mandriva 2006.

I just installed the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9625-pkg1.run drivers and they seem to let me run 1280x1024 now, which I didn't seem to have available before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers Internet!

  5. Hi guys and gals,

I have got a nice little dual boot scenario going on my laptop and I love it. Windows sucks but I need it for work , Mandriva is fun and interesting but still doesn't cover all my bases.

The PROBLEM is that when windows goes in hibernation (which is a function I use alot as I travel about a bit) I seem to lose my mandriva to some extent.

I can still choose to boot mandriva but then it will only boot for about 7-8 seconds and then stall. As far as I can tell it's due to the hibernate.

Im sure there must be someone who has nailed this problem.

Please share with me if you have.

    ta.

  6. Is there anyone who knows how to setup the stylus on a tablet PC??

Mine is a compac TC1000 and I can't for the life of me find the right info I need.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you have a TC1000 and run Mandriva 2006 official perhaps we could swap notes etc.

  7. I GOT IT!

I was almost at reformat state of mind when I threw in my hirens boot cd and had a look in the paritioning tools. I used PM8 to checkout the drive before I lay waste to it's contents. And I discovered that the NTFS drives had been hidden. So I unhid them and viola!

Now winnie and mandy are friends again and playing lovely games in the happy land of candybit.

C:/ is the fourth partion though still, but it doesn't seem to matter.

Thanks for the help. I would recommend that Hiren's boot cd to all if you see a torrent about for it.

  8. Yeah I know itś a crazy mix. it also has 98 on the same part as xp so maybe I did it when setting up their dual boot. 98 boots okay too.

This is so weird though, cause originally it was set up from format with C E and F in that order.

I guess I will have to burn it all off and reformat.

    bugger

  9. Update!!! - not solved

Ok so now I have found a way into windows. I had to choose the windows 2 option of my three windows options on lilo boot menu. Then I am able to boot win. But now windows is only seeing the one partition that it resides on. The other two win partitions are still viewable in Linux but not on win.

    okay for the nomenclature:

as far as I can tell from how mandriva reports things the drive is as follows

i - hdc1 - NTFS and is readable in linux but not win. USED TO BE E:

    ii - hdc2 - NTFS same as above.USED TO BE F:

iii - hdc3 - vfat Can boot this drive in win USED TO BE C: and still is.

    iv - hdc4 - / Works fine

Sorry if I have missed anything, I am still fairly new to all this.

All I need to do now is get win to pick up the two disks it dropped (hdc1 hdc2) but maybe I have to switch to a win forum for help there?

  11. Hi.

I have just put mandriva on my PC. I already have it running dual boot on my laptop and now have installed it on the big beast too.

However I can´t get back to windows anymore. I have a strange setup I know but I don really want to reformat right now.

Before installing Mandriva I had 3 win partitions on a single 80 Gb drive.

    1) c

    2)e

    3)f

then I made e smaller and put a new partion in between e and f.

    1)c

    2)e

    3)empty

    4)f

then I installed mandriva. This appeared to go smoothly and I have it running nicely at present. Besides a little crashing from firefox, my nvidia card limiting my display to 1024x768 and few other annoying bugs. Itś fantastic.

But after the party I do need to go back to my windows. So I tried to go back and it complains about no ntldr. But I also notice that my partitions on my drive are actually the opposite way round to what I thought. i.e.

    1)f

    2)mandriva

    3)e

    4)c

So I am lost in how to get windows back online. I tried changing the hd value in the boot.ini strings but no luck.

Can anyone explain this bizarre hd setup??

  12. I tried so many diferent flavours of knoppix and debian and puppy and so on but none would get my keyboard to work. Im on a weirdo little TC1000 so it has issues in this dept.

In the end I have downloaded a new DVD of mandriva.

I may have lost this battle but I will still win the war.

I really thought Knoppix would be the ticket too... hmmm... keyboards..........

  13. Is it possible to fix my lilo on my dual boot xp setup so I can get back into my mandriva(windows ate the boot loader again) without using the dvd??

Is it possible to download a lilo repair kit or something??

I just haven't got my disc and can't download a new one right now.

gulp..Help me escape this windows nightmare I'm trapped in.

  14. It doesn't use the wacom drivers. Open a console, login as root and type: lsmod. Post the output here.

Hereś my lsmod output, cool command. Are you sure you that the tablet doesn use the wacom drivers. I thought I had read that these were put into the mandriva core specifically for TCXXXX users?? Anyway I guess I have been chasing a ghost. What drivers should I be after?

  15. The story so far..

I have been reading up on sites where people have got a running linux on their tc1000. This seems to be only a small handful of individuals. From what I have read all I need to do is add a few lines to my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.

Here is the code I added:

    Section "InputDevice"

    Identifier "cursor"

    Driver "wacom"

    Option "Device" "/dev/ttyS4"

    Option "Type" "cursor"

    Option "Mode" "Absolute"

    Option "Button2" "3"

    Option "ForceDevice" "ISDV4"

    EndSection

    Section "InputDevice"

    Identifier "stylus"

    Driver "wacom"

    Option "Device" "/dev/ttyS4"

    Option "Type" "stylus"

    Option "Mode" "Absolute"

    Option "Button2" "3"

    Option "ForceDevice" "ISDV4"

    EndSection

in the server setup area I added the cursor and stylus lines below:

    Section "ServerLayout"

    Identifier "layout1"

    InputDevice "Keyboard1" "CoreKeyboard"

    InputDevice "cursor" "SendCoreEvents"

    InputDevice "stylus" "SendCoreEvents"

    InputDevice "Mouse1" "CorePointer"

    Screen "screen1"

    EndSection

I think I read somewhere that these wacom drivers are part of mandriva 2006. Do they autoinstall at setup or do I need to add something somewhere else?

    I know nothing!
