I have installed the mandriva 2005 LE. I do not know how to install the usb drive. For the cdrom and floppy, it install automatically. How about the usb driver? I cannot open vcd with totem or kaffeine. I can watch wmv with totem but cannot watch rmv. I installed a newer version of xine and xine-ui and I can watch vcd. It seems that something is wrong with totem and kaffeine. What is the problem? Also, how to watch rm or rmv? I tried to installed realplayer 10 but it does not work. Please kindly help me.

I have installed the mandrake 10.1 community. I have installed a software usbview. I do not know how to use it. Can anybody teach me or tell me where to find a simple userguide? There are several multimedia software, xine, amaroK, mplayer and xmms. Can anybody give the comment about these softwares? In windows, the WMP seems to fulfil all the functions. I used xine for vcd, xmms or amaroK for mp3, Kscd for CD. I cannot open CD in xine or amaroK. I cannot open mp3 in xine. Also, for the plugins, it seems that not all multimedia software can plugins the browsers. I am using opera and it can only use gxine or totem (I have forgotten) but I failed to installed it. Therefore, I cannot open the streaming on the browser. Can the openoffice or arobat reader plugin the browsers like that in windows? I would like to ask for some comment on these software and some advice. Thanks.

I have installed mandrake on my computer since version 8.2. Now I am using 10.1. My computer is PII with 128M RAM, I found that the newer version is getting faster. However, if I use windows with the same computer, it will be slower if I use newer version, eg. windows 98 to xp. Why is there such a difference? Is it due to the fact that there is much improvement in the newer version of mandrake? How about if I installed even newer version of mandrake without upgrading the CPU, RAM and other hardware?

Thank you very much The RPMs you are trying to install are compiled with gcc4, while 10.1 is compiled with gcc 3.4 (I think it was 3.4.. or 3.2... bah.), thus it will not work on your box. It will crash the system afaik, if you force an install. If you want to install OOo2.0, then you need to grab the sources and compile it yourself. Can you give us more information? What does not work? what did you do? Are there any error messages in the terminal? Most of these "problems" can be solved by using the 2006 version. I know, this is not really helpful, but I suggest nonetheless to install 2006 if you can. About the wma plugins: You need to install them manually as they are proprietary or you might be lucky and find them bundled in the win32codecs package that you can install from the PLF mirrors, using easyurpmi. Many of your other questions can be solved by reading the FAQ section of this board.The problem with the USB drive is 99% due to the fact that the USB support in 10.1 wasn't overly impressive. I have heard of somebody who can use the plugins. How to do it? The computer cannot recognize the USB drive even after I plug in it. What is the problem?
