Maybe it's because the pciid is incorrect? When I installed ndiswrapper the pciid is (currently) 1358:5f00, whereas on the ndiswrapper web-site they suggest 1358:5f01.
Can I just change this manually? Would that make a difference?
Cheers, Andy

My adapter is atheros chipset based too.
Would a PCI adapter be any better than a USB with ndiswrapper? Perhaps changing my WPN111 (USB) to the WPN311 (PCI) would make a difference?
Cheers, Andy

I can't figure it out. I am sure this is set up correctly. It is supposed to work in ndiswrapper, but the last time it did was yesterday morning!
I have an "alias..." in /etc/modprobe.conf
and have swapped "ndiswrapper" between /etc/modprobe.preload & /etc/modules
Strange?!? (I am now writing this in Windows!) I have a little more patience, then I'm swapping this NIC for another. Can anyone suggest one that supports Linux and will work with/have the following:
* USB NIC
* Supports 108 Mbps
* Compatible with the Netgear WPN824 router (www.netgear.com/products/details/WPN824.php)
(Maybe the Intel pro wireless 2100/2200 is this?)
Thanks, Andy

I am using the .inf driver that came with the Windows driver CD. It is the one that is recommended here: http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/mediawi...ndex.php/List#N (No. 39 - netwpn11.inf + wpn111.sys + ar5523.bin), although my ndiswrapper-automated pciid is 1358:5f00, whereas they suggest 1358:5f01.
Strange that it is temperamental...
-
I was playing with this again last night. It seems to be _very_ temperamental and I don't know why?!? After rebooting into Windows to make sure it still works (ie, do I get it replaced at the store?), then back into Linux, hey-presto, it works!
I am sure that I have set everything right, including ndiswrapper in /etc/modules for boot.
Any ideas as to what is going on here?
Thanks, Andy

I do have harddrake running at boot, but it still fails to re-detect the IBM monitor I am using. It gets boring having to re-set the display each time I switch back to that machine.
-
Dear all,
I was playing with the latest tar.gz ndiswrapper yesterday (1.10) to get my wireless USB device (Netgear WPN111) working as per the instructions given at:
http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/mediawi...on#Installation
and yippee, it just worked! I could reboot and everything.
I switched on my machine this morning - nothing (I have not changed anything in my config)! So, I went for a reinstall - nothing?!?
I am lost. Very strange, eh? (The device still works in Windows.)
Does anyone have any clues?
Regards, Andy

Dear all,
If I have installed the latest kernels available in the Mandriva recommended way:
# urpmi.update -a
# urpmi kernel-2.6.X.Xmdk
How does one remove a kernel (when you have 1 too many!) in the Mandriva recommended way?
Cheers, Andy

Dear all,
I am trying to be clever: I have a Western Digital Passport 40Gb 2.5" USB external drive for my Mandriva 2006.0 (download) 'system'. Something I plan to plug in anywhere and just use (making sure I make regular back-ups!).
At present, I want to use this on 2 machines: Dell Dimension 5000 and IBM ThinkVision something-or-other, both with differing hardware configs (wired/wireless LANs, graphics, monitor, etc.). However, when I switch between machines I still have to independently configure some hardware, even though I have set them up before.
Is there a way to save each hardware config, so that I can literally plug my 'system' in anywhere (without having to reconfigure each time I return to a previously configured machine)?
Any pointers/hints/suggestions/help would be VERY MUCH appreciated.
Kind regards, Andy

Dear all,
I VERY MUCH like the idea of being able to play music over a wireless connection. I have come across only 2 products though (surely there are more?). Logitech's Wireless Music System and Apple's AirPort Express.
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products...CONTENTID=10855
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebO...plm=M9470LL%2FA
I quite like the idea of AirPort Express as it can be used as a wireless network too.
Has anyone got these products to work (I've briefly read something about raop_play: http://raop-play.sourceforge.net)?
Can anyone make any recommendations as to other products that will do the job just as good/better and is supported in one way shape or form?
Many thanks, Andy

Hi!
I'm still not having much luck with my network adapter! Here are some outputs that you may be able to decipher!? Many thanks, Andy

Dear all,
I am trying to be clever: I have bought a Western Digital Passport 40Gb 2.5" USB external drive for my Mandriva 2006 'system'. Something I can plug in anywhere and just use (making sure I make regular back-ups).
Currently, I want to use this on 2 machines:
Dell Dimension 5000
IBM ThinkVision something-or-other
In the IBM there's a 'Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5751 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express' card which is just not recognised! I don't understand; this is supposed to be 'certified hardware' (www.mandriva.com/en/hardware - LAN adapter)?
I have installed the latest kernels available in the Mandriva recommended way:
# urpmi.update -a
# urpmi kernel-2.6.X.Xmdk
But nothing... I have read about both the bcm5700 and tg3 drivers, which I have tried to load manually through the Control Center, but nothing...
Maybe I need to specify options instead of autoprobing?
Maybe I've missed something in the BIOS?
Any pointers/hints/suggestions/help would be VERY MUCH appreciated - I am trying in vain to get this set-up.
Kind regards, Andy

OK, what if I were to get ANY PCI card at either 54Mbps or 108Mbps - what can people suggest as the least problematic route?
Cheers, Andy
