  1. The first command outputted:

VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc 3D Rage Pro AGP 1X/2X (rev 92).

    the second one

    Card:ATI Mach64 Utah: ATI|3D Rage Pro AGP 1X/2X [DISPLAY_VGA] (vendor:1002 device:4742)

Yesterday i tried changing the driver to the ATI Mach64 3d Rage Pro. It didn't help.

I'm surviving with my monitor,I set my panel at the top so it only really affects the panel, it warps a bit at the ends.

At the moment my main focus is being able to write and Compile my windows programs under linux. Everything esle is absolutely great.

  2. There are FREE Ultima shards out there such as Sanctuary Shard www.sanctuaryshard.com or Medieva www.medieva.org. Medieva is down at the moment. There is also another one called Draspha.

As for the Ultima client these links might help:

    http://www.peroxide.dk/ultima/

Seeing as you don't know much about CVS www.rpmfind.net and www.rpmseek.com are great sites to find a RPM of something, i use them heaps.

If you are looking for games, you can find many easily at http://www.icculus.org/lgfaq/gamelist.php

As for your question on Wine, does it support NTFS, i don't think so, it may, but i heard somewhere it doesn't.

If you want to simplify your install of Wine you can get Winesetuptk. It simplifies the configuration heaps. An RPM and some instructions are available at http://digilander.libero.it/winehqitalia/

    Hope this helps, Good luck

  3. Hi

I have noticed that Windows says my Graphics Card is a ATI 3D Rage Pro. It is AGP. Linux says its a ATI Mach64 Utah or at least along those lines - i'm in Winblows now so i can't check.

Looking in my manual it says the graphics card is a ATI Rage Pro AGP 3D.

    Maybe this is the problem............

    rcxau

//Update: i'm sure its a ATI 3D RAGE PRO (DirectX), The Manual and Winblows say it is..............

I can't even fine a driver for Linux or Winblows on the ATI Website

it has them for: 3D Rage, Rage Pro but not 3D Rage Pro.

I know the card is an ATI card

  4. Going into IE then..... failed

It doesn't work now that i upgraded to IE6, IE4 worked

So if you want to use IE 6, ignore my suggestion.

can anyone help me get IE6 running under WINE version 20020804

    I already have Word97, Excel 97 and Powerpoint97

Having IE6 running is essential because as a web developer I need to test whether my sites display well in IE as over 80% of people use IE. I have seen the light - i don't want to develop in Winblows. But i need to make my pages look good in it.

    Thanks

  5. I got IE running without a problem... easily

I installed the Wine off the MDK9.0 install CDs

To do that I went into the

KDE menu (or Gnome) -> Configuration -> Packages

Then go into install packages or something like that

Search for 'wine' and install it. You'll need your CDs handy

It would also be a good idea to completely remove your previous wine installation before installing.

I used WineSetupTK to configure Wine,

You can get an RPM for it at http://digilander.libero.it/winehqitalia/d...etuptk.i386.rpm

It ran IE without a problem. Except for the icons on the Navigation bar.

I will post my config options here later

    Good luck

  6. I don't think my computer is fast enough for Bochs, Pentium 2 300mhz, it's slow, not ideal for programming, but i have to use it.

i'd like to simply be able to compile my windows programs in gcc within linux so they either compile as windows programs i can run in WINE or they compile as native linux programs but will compile in windows under MinGW. Something like a Windows API but for linux, so i don't have to modify my code to run under linux would be great.

  7. I have a dual boot Win98/Mandrake9.0

I need to program my programs for Winblows but would love to write them within Linux. In other words i don't want to use Winblows to write windows programs. Wierd i know, but i prefer linux and want to move away from winblows completely, Dev-C++ and the need for my programs to run in Winblows is the only thing keeping me on Winblows.

  8. Hi

This is a wierd request but i need to program my applications for windows, but want to write them in linux. The people who will be using my programs will be using windows, having them use linux is not an option. My compiled programs will run in wine, the problem is compiling them for windows, under linux. My editor runs in Wine but i just need to be able to compile them.

    Thanks

    James

    I'm using C++,

    Winblows editor is Dev-C++

    Compiling on MingW

  9. Hi

I have just happily installed MDK9.0 and everything is functioning perfectly except the monitor.

I can see everything fine just it curves off at the top

    Kind of like this.....

    Will post a .png soon

The above is a little exagerrated but it gives the idea

I have the 'panel up the top and it is the only thing really affected.

The controls on the monitor can't help.

The installation detected my graphics card and monitor correctly

    I didn't have this problem with MDK8.2

I did a fresh install as i lost my MDK8.2 install

    I have a Hp Pavillion M50 monitor

And the graphics card is an ATI 3D Rage Pro AGP1x/2x

    Thanks in advance

  10. If you need root access there is always

    su

and for files there is a Super user file manager, besides it's good to learn how to use the command line because

    (a it can be quicker

(b you WILL need to use it sometimes.

(c if you want everything to be easy gui no need for command line go try Winblows

    rcxau

  11. In fdisk what do i do?

Multiple choice question for full marks

    1. Create Primary DOS Partition (ok probably not this one)

    2. Create Extended DOS Partition

    3. Create Logical DOS Drive(s) in the Extended DOS Partition

    1, 2 or 3. Which option do i choose?

  12. oh and the Mandrake installer showed the loast area as White. Empty. Do i need to format it or anything before running any tools to mark bad sectors?

I can't see the partition in winblows, and i have NOT used any Microshaft disk tools. How do i go about markin bad sectors and then installin Linux back where it used to be?

Thanks for all help so far

    James

  13. I never used any Winblows disk tools.

Before going to bed i shut down my computer (i had just been using linux)

and the next morning it wouldn't boot into linux. It gave the error message described in my first post.

I want to reinstall a linux distro (not sure of which) where mandrake used to be. Removing the winblows partition is not possible.

What steps do i need to take to mark the bad sectors and then install linux again where it used to be?

    Thanks

    James

  14. Will it be safe to leave it empty until i buy a retail version of linux?

The windows partition is fine but all linux is gone, empty, white. The only thing left is the Mandrake customized LILO.

Is it alright if i install say Red Hat instead of Mandrake?

I'm going to buy a retail version.
