  2. I found another service: "laptop-mode" which gives me error when I shut down the computer. On the info:

Starts and stops "laptop-mode" - tweaks system behavior to extent battery life

    I don't know if I need this. I don't know exactly what he's doing.

  3. Hi. Since I updated my computer my Gnome WM doesn't work well (it doesn't show any panels or menus). Now, I have 2 choices:

    1. To repair Gnome.

    2.To remove from my computer.

I don't know how to do this. Can you help me to repair or remove?

  4. Hello. When I shut down my computer a lot of messages appear about shutting down different services.

    I saw for example that

    Stopping NFS locking: [FAILED]

It means something important or not?

Also there are some other long messages that I have no time to read. There is log file or something with this messages on halting the system?

    Thanx

  5. Again about MDE you find latest kde available (kde-3.5.4), thing that mandriva doesnt provide, and more advanced and complete apps.

sorry I'm not a “Super Trouper” in Linux and I don't understand very well what's about MDE. I can install a new version of KDE? Or what I have to do? Can you give some more details?

  6. Hello. Since I updated my system when I try to use GNOME as a win manager all menus disappear. No menus, no side bar no buttons. I have on my desktop just Home directory and Trash. No application launcher or something like that :puter:

  7. urpmi --auto-select --resume
To satisfy dependencies, the following 6 packages are going to be installed (8 MB):

ok I installed all, now I shoud do again

    # urpmi.update -a

    ?

... beeing a windows user ... should I restart the system?

  8. Normally when I've seen this it's been something to do with the sound configuration. What version of Mandrake/Mandriva are you running? And have you applied updates to your system? Maybe there is a fix for it.

hmm in fact this happened after I install some urpmi software. anyway I don't know how to apply updates. From easy urpmi I cheked all and I typed in the console what they gave. That was an update? (sorry for this basic question).

  9. Looking around through processes that are running on my computer I found some that I don't know what they're doing and don't know if are important or not. Some of them are:

    bonobo-activation-server

    gam_server (I don't use any games)

    chat – zombie

    applets – zombie

    oded [definite]

    notify

    s2u

I don't know if are necessary or not. Does anyone can give me some details about processes listed above?

  13. This printer never made it to any other markets than Japan and East Asia, it seems, and it's not supported even by the usual Canon commercial buddy (Turboprint).

Yes, I know, I just asked because win XP has driver for it. For this it's a little frustrating for me every time when I have to print something I must restart in Win.

  14. Hi there. I'm connected with my computer in a win network and I want to use a network printer. The printer is CANON LBP 1820. I installed CUPS but I cannot found a driver for this printer in printer's drivers list. Finally I found a driver for this printer on CANON's web page http://cweb.canon.jp/drv-upd/lasershot/linux/lips4linux.html. It's a RPM package. I installed and now I don't know what to do next. I use Mandriva2006 and I tried from Mandriva Control Center to install the printer but I couldn't do it. Can anyone help me to continue. Thanx
