  1. Thanks scarecrow!

I tried Md2009one but doesn't boot, all distros with kernel 2.6. doesn't boot (Mandriva one, Arch, TinyMe)

I tried puppy too but it doesn't recognize my PCMCIA so I cannot networking. I'm still searching to bring up the interface

I tried DSL but when I installed on HDD it destroyed my MBR so I have to reinstall Win and everything. This distro lacks in living with other OS on HDD.

Finally Mdk9.2 was a reasonable choice.

Now I have on my box Win98SE, Mdk9.2, Puppy4.2.1, FreeBSD7.2, but just for Win and Mdk I could bring up the network. For the others I'm still searching. After finding a solution I can compare them in term of speed and everything

  2. Thanks Greg2, I did

    cardctl suspend 0

and my PCMCIA stoped but when I reboot the same message:

    Shuting down loopback interface
Stopping pcmcia: cardgr [707]: executing: './network stop eth0'
    unregistered_netdevice ......

ufff and I had to use again "reset" botton

When booting the network interface is bring up before PCMCIA card, so bringing up network report [failed] and after pcmcia start the network is on.

and Mandrake9.2 was the maximum that I can put on my old box

    any sugestions

  3. Hi there.

I raised up with Mdk9.2 on my old computer Toshiba Tecra 510CDT (P1, 148MB ram, 40GB HDD). I have some problems with my PCMCIA card.

When I stop the computer the servive cardmgr doesn't stop. It report:

unregister_netdevice: waiting for eth0 to became free. Usage count =2

And because of that the system doesn't stop and I have to push the "reset" button.

    How can I solve that?

    thankx

  4. Hi there. I found an old laptop, Toshiba Tecra 510. The processor is Pentium I and 144MB memory and 40GB HDD. I succeed to install Mandrake 9.2 on it with X and blackbox as WM. Mdk9.2 has kernel 2.4 . can I update to 2.6.?

It's a minimal install without MCC

I want to install some software through urpmi, how can I add new media since my kernel is 2.4

    tahnks

  5. Hi there

    I have 2 questions

    1. Does anyone knows how to print odd or even pages in Okular?

I used kpdf for reading pdf files but I found that now Okular is the default app for *.pdf

    2. How to install apache22?

In MCC > software management I search for "apache" and had a huuuge list. Which one to chose?

    Apache-base?

    I tried also

    # urpmi apache2
    No package named apache2
    The following packages contain apache2: moin-apache2, moin-apache2-unsafe
You should use "-a" to use all of them

    I don't need moin-apache

    thanks

  6. Hi there. It seems I have problems all the time with adding media in a fresh installed Md.

    I just installed Md2009Spring and

    # urpmi.addmedia --distrib --mirrorlist 'http://api.mandriva.com/mirrors/basic.2009.0.i586.list'
...retrieving failed: aria2 failed: exited with 2

unable to access the distribution medium (no media.cfg file found)
    unable to add medium

    did I miss something

    thanks

  7. well then try:
    mount -t ufs -o ro,ufstype=44bsd /dev/sda2 /media/hd2

I have the same error mesage and

     dmesg | tail
    [<c019c1ca>] ? sys_close+0x7a/0xc0
    [<c0103e5b>] ? sysenter_do_call+0x12/0x2f

  8. Have you tried:
    mount -t ufs -o ufstype=44bsd /dev/sdXX /mount_point

    # mount -t ufs -o ufstype=44bsd /dev/sda2 /media/hd2/
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda2,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
       dmesg | tail or so

    and

    # dmesg | tail
ufs was compiled with read-only support, can't be mounted as read-write

  9. Thanks medo, I started X, but only with 800x600.

My G Card is NVIDIA GeForce 6100

    Monitor L226W

    I installed FreeDVD

Md2009 doesn't recognize network at all. I have wireless Realtek RTL 8187

how can I set my network, since I cannot to Internet?

  10. If you have set up on-line media, then installing this package will also install any required dependencies.

    thanks Jim

    Like media I have:

    PLF Free

    PLF Non-free

    Main

    Main updates

    Contrib

    Contrib Updates

    Non-free

    Non-free Updates

    Do I need something else?

BTW ... If I go to MCC-> configure media -> add after a while I got:

Unable to add medium, errors reported:

...retrieving failed: aria2 failed: exited with 1
unable to access the distribution medium (no media.cfg file found)

    Medium: Official2009.0- ()

I use proxy to connect to In.

  11. Hi there.

For many reasons I want to run some Windows programs (Office 2007, CorelDraw, etc.) on my Mandriva Box. I tried to install Office 2007 through wine but couldn't succeed. Anyway I succeed with Office 2003.

Now I want to try to install WinXP on my Mandriva with a virtual machine. In MCC I search for VBox and I got dkms-virtualbox - VirtualBox OSE kernel module Version: 2.0.2-2mdv2009.0. I don't know if this is the package for running Sun VirtualBox?

Do you know some other VM that can be run in Mandriva?

    Thanks

  12. Hi there.

I just install Md2009 and when I tried to add some media through automatic Easy URPMI an error appears.

Unable to add medium, errors reported:

...retrieving failed: rsync failed: exited with 35
unable to access the distribution medium (no media.cfg file found)

    Medium: ()

I'm using a proxy server to connect to Internet.

How can I set the proxy for URPMI

    Thanks a lot

  13. Hi there

I just recover my computer from a serious damage. I installed MdOne2008. Now I want to save my files from an NTFS partition on my HDD. My HDD has 2 NTFS partitions with windows files. I can see them in Konqueror but if I try to access them an error occur:

    org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-fixed
    auth_admin_keep_always<-- (action, result)

how can I access the NTFS partition to save my files?

    Thanks

  14. Hello. After installing Md2008 on another computer I checked for updates, and everything works well but after restarting when I tried to update again an error appear: urpmi database locked. I tried also from MCC and same message. I don't know how to solve this.

    Thanks.
