The postfix documentation is acutally pretty good - have a look at it :)
Try

Man - been looking at some of these problems for so long now I was going blind...
postfix was looking at /usr/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
whereas mine is actaully as /var/lib/mysql/mysql/sock
*smack* Gotta set the font size bigger I think - been staring at those 2 lines for so long without even noticing.. :P
Oh well - at least postfix is talk to MySQL now - just ca't get Courier-IMAP to see/read the virtual maildirs..

Evening everyone,
I'm currently strugglingthrough a postfix/courier-imap/mysql installation. Have a number of issues at the moment, but I'll start with this one.
I've got courier-auth installed and the mysql tables setup and tested with authtest.
Courier-imap is installed and running.
When connecting with Kontact I can connect to the mailbox but when selecting "index" I get the message
"Server replied: unable to open this mailbox"As an alternative connecting method I telneted in on 143 and can
a login user pass
but
a examine inbox
unable to open mailboxFurther info
Home directory for users is set to
/usr/local/virtual/user@host.tld/which exists and has permissions set to postfix:postfix. Is that correct?
/var/log/mail info, warning, errors report no errors from courier (but a number of postfix errors which I'm trying to work out including
postfix/trivial-rewrite[32205]: fatal: mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql_virtual_alias_maps.cf(0,100): table lookup problempostfix/trivial-rewrite[32316]: warning: connect to mysql server unix:/usr/lib/mysql/mysql.sock: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/usr/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
MySQL Server is running, postfix is NOT chroot'ed
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks guys - the server wasn't running (d'oh!) - up and going now...
To complete the topic
Checked if mysql server was set to turn on at start up
root #] chkconfig --list | grep sql postgresql 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off mysql 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off
And there it is not set to startup
Started services with
root #] /etc/init.d/mysql start
Tested... and working
And of course can't forget to add it too the startup script
root #] chkconfig --level 2345 mysql on
Is that the right run levels for it?

Afternoon all - when attempting to connect with the MySQL cli i get this error
root> #] mysqlERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket'/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
I've had a look at the permissions on this directory and it appears correct (set to o: mysql g: mysql)
Any other thought on what could wrong?

OK - solved it.
I've download and attempted to install rpm-build-4.2.3-9mdk.i586.rpm (as I updated my rpm to 4.2.3 in my previous efforts). When I attempt to install this I get
[root@hostname doug]# rpm -Uv rpm-build-4.2.3-9mdk.i586.rpm
autoconf is needed by rpm-build-4.2.3-9mdk
automake is needed by rpm-build-4.2.3-9mdk
multiarch-utils >= 1.0.8 is needed by rpm-build-4.2.3-9mdk
spec-helper is needed by rpm-build-4.2.3-9mdk
So I used easyrpm and added a new media
urpmi.addmedia main ftp://mandrake.contactel.cz/Mandrakelinux...i586/media/main with media_info/hdlist.cz
Then could acutally urpmi -y for the above packges. Although I had to download multiarch-utils from http://rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/cooker/10.2/...mdk.noarch.html
(possible because I didn't add new updates as suggested by easurpm?)
Now let see if I can get courier-imap to install! :)

[root@hostname doug]# whereis rpmbuild
rpmbuild: /usr/share/man/man8/rpmbuild.8.bz2
[root@hostname doug]#
Thats the man page yeah? That I can get - just not the actual command...
-
Not really sure what that reply means Steve.. but heres my output from the same...
urpmf rpmbuild
rpm:/usr/lib/librpmbuild-4.2.so
rpm:/usr/share/man/ja/man8/rpmbuild.8.bz2
rpm:/usr/share/man/man8/rpmbuild.8.bz2
rpm:/usr/share/man/pl/man8/rpmbuild.8.bz2
Note: since no media searched uses hdlists, urpmf was unable to return any result
You may want to use --name to search for package names.
Whats that all mean?

Having some strange issue with my mouse. During the install on Mandrake 10.1 the installer would hang at every "Next" if the mouse was attached. I could unplug the mouse click next then replug the mouse and use it - but if plugged in everything would lock up.
I got through the install still (go keyboard!) and into KDE but even after selecting "Any PS/2 USB Mouse" during the install the mouse doesn't work on entry to the WM. If I go to the Hardware Configure section and change the mouse hardware to "USB" and apply then go back in and change back to "Any PS/2 USB" then it starts working.
Any thoughts as to why this is happening?

Hi guys - I just installed Mandrake 10.1 (from APC Coverdisk ISOs - if that means anything to anyone) and am attempting to get a mail server up and running. During this I was installing Courier-IMAP and during the ./configure it has asked me to rpmbuild as a local user the source rather than compile direct.
No problems I think, hit google for some info and of we go - only to discover that rpmbuild doesn't seem to be present on my build, on any of install disks. The man pages are installed but no application!
A bit more googling shows up at least on other person with the same problem and everyone just said "go and download it". However I'll be buggered if I can find anywhere to download it! I found rpmbuilder, an x app, but it won't build as a local user only as root.
Isn't rpmbuild a fairly basic (core) component of the rpm software? How could I have ended up with rpm but not rpmbuild after the install?
I've tried urpmi to find it (no luck), rpmfind (no luck), basic locating on disk stuff (whereis), upgrading rpm to 4.2.3 but no luck. Any pointers here as I'm going to pull out what little hair I have left soon?!
