  1. Reinstalled ati driver according to post provided.

appears to have worked glxgears about 2000-2500 FPS

    fgl_glxgears is about 350 FPS

My open GL now states ATI 9200

Guess I made it but not ver fast but I have a intel celeron 1GHz with 133 fsb so guess i can expect miracles

Thanks to all for their help

  2. performed the rpm rebuildbd

    then uname -r

tried to urpmi kernel-source still the same error.

went to system/configuration/packaging/install software and it worked(or i think it did)

Now do i need to reperform the driver install?

I believe the gcc is already there

  3. I have reinstalled mandrake 4 times now and also bought 10.1 powerpack and still get the same issues.

I want to update/install the kernel source code so i can get my ati drivers to work properly.

    I get this error:

unable to access rpm file [kernel-source-2.6-2.6.8.1-12mdk.i586.rpm]

    error registering local packages

This is not the first ime I have had this and there seems to be no way past it. I have done nothing but update my media(several mrrors) And used thacs to install xorg 6.8.

    Help me please.

  4. Ran the install all seemed well, however I got the following error:

    fgl_glxgears

X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)

Major opcode of failed request: 142 (GLX)

Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)

Serial number of failed request: 32

Current serial number in output stream: 32

Also, my info says Im still on mesa my glxgear stinks at like 700fps

How do i ensure or install kernel source code and gcc compiler?

When/if that is done do I need to reinstal the ati driver?

    Help please

  5. Have installed 10.1 official and am working towards installing cedega to play games we like. However I need to get the ATI drivers installed so my 3d is working. When to ati site to get the driver but have no idea what xfree86 im using. Trying the check.sh command give me this error:

    [root@localhost canam97]# sh check.sh

    =====================================================================

    ATI Technologies

    =====================================================================

Your possibly not running this script from the console

or maybe you simply dont have the console ownership.

Unable to determine XFree86 Version. Stopping now.

What am I doing wrong? I can find no reference to any of this on the ati site and dont want to install teh wrong drivers. I also need a location for some simple instructions for the installation. Been told I have to update kernel and such but find nothing to assist me.

Is this worth all the trouble or should I go out and get another graphics card. Is nVidia any better with mandrake?

    Thanks ahead of time.

  6. Thank you, thank you

The line you gave me worked and I can now access the partition as user

No on to bigger things as I wait for my official distribution (10.1 powerpack) to arrive so I can reintall and begin again.

    Till next time,

    thanks again :D

Marked the thread Solved - Artificial Intelligence

  7. I followed the directions on another thread and added my old windows(ntfs) drive.

    My fstab reads:

    /dev/hdb1 /mnt/windows ntfs defaults,noatime,ro 0 0

It mounted it fine and I can access in root console.

When I try to access it in my user account it is locked.

I went to /mnt/windows folder with root console and attemted to give access to all users but it told me it couldnt be done because of a java file in one of the directories. Is there a way to complete this without going thru each folder on the ntfs drive and changeing access on the ones it will allow?

on the permissions page the user was root and the group was root.

the three drop down above that were user read and access, group forbidden, other forbidden.

Let me know if you need additional information or any solutions.

Thanks a bunch for all who have insight

  8. yes they are a download and i did perform a md5sum on each one.

this is the second time to install using them and i dont recall it having this issue the first time but i could be wrong.

i have ordered an official distribution but for now i am using all these errors as learning tools for the future

I keep looking for an answer.

tried rpm --rebuilddb and urpmi.update -a

    didnt correct my problem

  9. okay.

Finally got fed up and reinstalled the whole thing (10.1)

I still get this error trying to install anything using urpmi:

unable to access rpm file [mozilla-1.7.2-11mdk.i586.rpm]

    error registering local packages

Mozilla was just one i tried, fill in the blank with any rpm.

What could possibly be happening now?

  10. I figured it out :D

It went on for a while and I'm not sure I got what I needed. I know its alot but here it is

  11. I tried all kind of ways to get that command to work:

    [root@localhost canam97]# $chmod u+x rpmfix.txt

    bash: u+x: command not found

    [root@localhost canam97]# $chmod u+x rpmfix

    bash: u+x: command not found

    [root@localhost canam97]# $ chmod u+x rpmfix

    bash: $: command not found

Not sure what I am doing wrong.

  12. I have been trying to fix my box for several days and it only seems to be getting worse. now i can get main and contrib to update or addmedia. i can get certain tings to work and ive lost all reference to package updates and installing and uninstalling software.

How do I getting my box back to the beginning without reinstalling?

  13. Thanks for those who help with my last problem it is most appreciated. I believe I have messed things up very badly. While correcting problems i started looking through my menu and found things missing. Under system/cofiguration/hardware, all reference to installing and uninstalling software or any reference to packages available is gone. I have no idea what i did to my box. I also noticed on the desktop that the configure your computer icon is gone. It is the one that normally sits to the right of my terminal icon. I dont know if there is any help other than possibly reinstalling from the beginning but i reall dont want to lose my information already on my harddrive.
