tried emerge -u modutils and that failed reboot did etc-update and tried emerge modutils and still got the insmod.static error

did that still need to uncomment dri but i did a emerge -u without the p and it looks like it's working (Knock on Wood) hopefully it will work and I will uncomment the dri THanks

OK!!! It gave me some green text and said portage will stop and complete the merge on both nvidia and its kernel but when I modprobe nvidia it says there is no module so i tried starting X and the instructions said i would get the nvidia splash screen but i didn't

That is what I've been following and yes when I get to emerge nvidia-glx is when I get the problem I tried skipping it, thinking I could later install it in KDE but kde craps out on me in the same way. I know skipping was probably not the best solution but I just thought I'd try it

tried the CFLAGS="-2" thing and all it did was shoot out unrecognized option looked on the gentoo forums again and found a guy with the same problem but no one posted a solution and my dang account is still inactive so I can't even post to find the solution please help i really appreciate it

It also failed with the same error BTW I did get rid of my vcron error

I got through everything in the initial install and when trying to install Nvidia drivers or KDE I get the same error Make[1]: ***[insmod.static] Error 1 make[1]1: ***Waiting for unfinished jobs.... Leaving directory Make: ***[all] Error 2 ERROR: sys-apps/modutils-2.4.25 failed Function src_compile, Line 41, Exitcode 2 emake failed I'm at wits end now and can't figure out what is going on... if anyone can help I would be greatly appreciative BTW the x server does work Thanks PS-- also on boot vcron is shooting me an error any ideas?

just to keep everyone posted I rebooted again and loaded the acpi kernel maybe this will work "fingers crossed"

spoke with ezroller against my better judgement restarted the install. Anyway see yall in 4 hours :( Also neither he nor I could find in the bios where to turn off energy saver. Which means if I don't stay on the ball then we might repliicate the problem

Also it would come out of sleep mode until this point. No way of knowing what point it is I was out on a job though

Is there any way to salvage the install from where I'm at???

yeah I tried that several times also turned off and then on the monitor and still nothing Tried another monitor and replicated the dilemna

I need some help installing Gentoo from stage 1. When loading the bootstrap it seems to download fine and begin to unload but when I came back to my pc the monitor would not recieve a signal, thus I have no idea if it is finished and can restart my computer. Please help me!!! I have a Gateway VX900 19" monitor and a 64MB Nvidia Gforce2

I just installed suse and i wanted to run the animated lilo but i'm running grub. Does anyone know where i can find lilo so i can install it and run the animated lilo

sorry meant to tell yall that whenever I run 3ddesk,3ddeskd, or 3ddesktop with the acquire swith it just blacks out on me and i have to hit crtl alt backspace and re-logon thanks for yalls help

I got fluxbox installed but 3ddesktop is still giving me the same output just don't understand what is causing this?? any input? Thanks

I'm a noob on Mandrake 9.0 and running blackbox. I installed all the dependencies and 3ddesktop but when I run the 3ddesk --acquire=700 or 3ddeskd --acqurie=700 or 500 or just 3ddesktop or just 3ddesk every time the screen goes black and I have to hit ctrl + alt+ bck space to relogon what could be the problem? any assistance is greatly qppreciated.
