Having taken a look at XD2 on RH 9.0 and getting sufficiently excited

about the Ximianised version of OpenOffice, I wanted to get Ximian's

OO.o running on my regular Mandrake 9.1

With a rather brave heart, this is what I did :

Dowloaded the following RH 9.0 RPMs from Ximian :

ooo1.1-1.1-0.ximian.6.2

libgnomecups-0.1.4-0.ximian.6.2

Installed libgnomecups with nodeps since it keep cribbing about missing

gnome-cups-manager which I couldnt find anywhere for MDK 9.1.

Then installed the ooo1.1-1.1-0.ximian.6.2 rpm again with nodeps

On trying to start ooffice there were errors with the following libs not

being found :

libssl.so.4

libcrypto.so.4

libstdc++.so.3

Again with a rather brave heart I symlinked the following in /usr/lib :

libssl.so.4 -> /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.7

libcrypto.so.4 -> /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.7

libstdc++.so.3 -> /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5.0.3

And then started ooffice again !!!

It worked !!! Yes ... It worked. My MDK 9.1 installation had CUPS neatly

configured & OpenOffice reads & uses it like a charm (I also had an

existing OO.o 1.1 RC installed - downloaded from the OpenOffice.org

site)

For now I have no idea how much this is going to screw my system, but, I

does work real good & hvnt come across issues thus far !

Hv seen 2 issues till now :

1. Random crash when I try & paste into a document something I copy from some other applications (say a webpage from mozilla)

2. Random crash when I highlight a piece of text & right click to try and format characters

Otherwise going great guns !

Dont miss it mate ... it rocks & is much faster that 1.0.2 / 1.0.3 !

:)
