Timidity will do it for you. I just played a midi file with it!

 

TiMidity++ - MIDI to WAVE converter and player​ 

TiMidity is a MIDI to WAVE converter and player that uses Gravis Ultrasound or SoundFont patch files to generate digital audio data from general MIDI files. The audio data can be played through any sound device or stored on disk.

If have nice soundfont install kmid and awesfx

'From konsole type

 

asfxload /home/user/soundfont*.sf2

 

Go to Setup MIDI in Kmid and select any wavetable.

Now Kmid is ready for play MIDI files.

You can insert asfxload /home/user/soundfont*.sf2 to any startscript for autoload. Goodlack ....Lex
