Deleted X fonts by mistake, how to re-install?

Hello,

I'm new to Mandriva Linux [2007.1 Spring] but like it a lot.

In the Mandriva control center (in the desktop), when I tried to change some of the fonts, I deleted them all by mistake...

Now when Mandriva boots and wants to start the X Server, it fails with an error "cant' find fixed font" (or similar message).

I booted from DVD to update the Mandriva Linux which it did, but unfortunately it didn't re-install the fonts...

Actually I've no idea where to start. I hope I don't need to re-install the entire Mandrive Linux partition?

Thanks in advance and all the best.

you should be given a text login screen after X startup fails, right?

Log in as root. Then do this:

urpmi xorg-x11-75dpi-fonts-7.2.0-1mdv2008.0

urpmi x11-font-misc

then you can try starting X again:

service -f dm

I think that should do it. If not, post back and I'll try and figure out what other fonts packages may be needed.

Hi and many thanks for your help.

Yes.

Log in as root. Then do this:

urpmi xorg-x11-75dpi-fonts-7.2.0-1mdv2008.0

urpmi x11-font-misc

then you can try starting X again:

service -f dm

I think that should do it. If not, post back and I'll try and figure out what other fonts packages may be needed.

Unfortunately, it didn't work.

I've to add I use Mandriva 2007 Spring Free and already added the official FTP servers to the software installation manager (when the X desktop still worked). So I guess the "urpmi" commands load mainly from the Internet, not the DVD.

I did "urpmi org-x11-75dpi-fonts-" (because it didn't find the exact name) and Mandriva sucessfully installed "org-x11-75dpi-fonts-7.1.0-6mdv2007.0.i586".

I did "urpmi x11-font-misc" and Mandriva sucessfully installed "x11-font-misc-1.0.0-3mdv2007.0.noarch".

"service -f dm" did jump back, and entering "kde" results in the same X error message:

Fatal server error:

Could not open default font 'fixed'

I also added some more font packs, which I got when I just entered "urpmi org-x11-" and "urpmi x11-font-" but with no effect.
