No offense to Mandrake, but they need to do something about that. When their software can be downloaded and burned for free, how do they expect someone to pay that price? It is my opinion, that if they bring down their price and advertise, they can create a huge fan base. However, if they keep their prices at MS level, no one is really going to buy it, except for the enthusiasts. Even though almost all software for it is free, the average user is gonna see "Hmm, these OS's are about the same price and I already know how to use windows... windows it is." Michel
I've just checked the prices and they didn't raised their prices. The price stayed the same for prosuite-edition adn the price of the powerpack-edition dropped 10€. The price that is mentioned is the subscription package.... Michel
Th price of the powerpack-edition is 69€. A big difference with microsoft I would say. Even the prosuit-edition is (let' say) 100€ cheaper than the STANDARD-windowsedition, last time I asked for a windows-price(1-1,5 year ago).... SoulSe
I'm going to order the standard boxed edition. The powerpack and prosuite are a bit to expensive considering that I'll have to buy new ones in another six months when 9.2 comes out! Some of us are broke
Guest gg4
Well, $182 for mandrake. Today, I saw Windows XP Professional for $199 in a local flier. This is professional too, not even Home which is cheaper.
Michel
Consider looking at the price of Windows XP-developper.....
Michel
Is it the full version or an upgrade to XP prof?
Michel
Here is a part of the microsoft website about the price for the united states. Here in Europe, I suppose it will be more expensive, I think: Full Version Media: CD $299.00 Microsoft® Windows XP Professional English North America CD Version Upgrade Media: CD $199.00 Microsoft® Windows XP Professional English Upgrade North America CD Don't forget: no office..... *XP wwith office: Full Version Media: CD $579.00 Microsoft® Office XP Professional Win32 English North America CD8 Version Upgrade Media: CD $329.00 Microsoft® Office XP Professional Win32 English Version Upgrade North America CD *The home edition: Full Version Media: CD $199.00 Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition English North America CD Sku # N09-00360 Version Upgrade Media: CD $99.00 Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition English Upgrade North America CD Anyway, I like linux more, because I trust it more, .... The prices are good and if I had to choose, I would buy a linux-packet. By the way, if you look at the windowsXP-comparisonguide....Linux offers always all the things. Linux is always (from it's birth I suppose) multi-user, networkinstallation is always a possibility,...And about, userfriendliness, it is getting there to my opinion...To my opninion, windows has taken a lot of features that linux had a long time already.... Guest JaseP
If you want CDs only it's only $54 US for the Power Pack of 9.1... My question is whethere they know what chipsets will be supported??? I have the KT333 and it's not fully supported right now. It's the most critical question that I have as to whether I'll upgrade.
