falling at very first hurdle

This is my first try at any linux and i downloaded the 3 cds from the mandriva website and partitioned my hard drive but i encountered a very early problem.

When i try to install mandriva 2006 i insert first CD, then press enter when menu saying install press enter comes up but it won't even load the installer, it just says "fatal error initialising setup". I don't know if this helps but in the log it says:

* mount_clp_may_preload: sysroot/tmp/image/install/stage2//mdkinst-dp into /sysroot/tmp/stage2 (preload=1)

* short write (Bad address)

* third party: using modules location /sysroot/fap/image

* fopen (stage1 c:348) failed: No such fiile or directory

If someone could please tell me what is going on i'd be very grateful

Thanks

Sounds like a bad burn to me too. Try burning the CD's again. To make your life easier I suggest burning the Mandriva One DVD if you can. Burning 1 is easier than 3 and you will get a less buggy xorg as the Mandriva One has some of the eventually needed updates already in place.
