Guest BooYah
This is a really dumb question. Will a kernel update fix the font problem in 9.0? Or is that in KDE 3.1, some X-serve update, or something else that needs updating.
tyme
well, exactly what do you mean "the font problem"? a kernel update won't help your fonts. if you look around, do a search or example (try "font problems", "bad fonts", and the like) you should find a good bit of info as fonts have quite a few topics. i have a post in the "Everything Linux" forum concerning the Xft and Fontconfig files that were missing from texstar, they make fonts appear a lot nicer. Guest BooYah
I was refering to this post http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php...6b75df86657970c After reading the review, I found the xft link. I'll also take a look at your post in the other forum, thanks for the heads-up. I spent a lot of time reading about fonts and trying to get them to work. I've got them to work pretty well 90% of the time, but sometimes the fonts are just butt-ugly. I was hoping there'd be a simple update somewhere, because I'm tired of dealing with this. tyme
fonts have been a problem w/linux for a while. check out this post: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=2126 it contains a lot of stuff about software for linux, but there is a link for an RPM which will get you the core microsoft fonts. personally, i get all the fontconfig, freetype2, and Xft packages from this link: http://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distribut...e/RPMS.texstar/ and install them. for the freetype2 ones you have to do an update (-U option on the command line). add to that the ms fonts i mentioned earlier and i rarely have any ugly fonts.
