I have tried all the correct settings for the graphical interface. I tried cntrl-alt-f7 etc to go to the graphics screen bo luck, please help. Adam. VeeDubb Posted December 2, 2004 Report Share Posted December 2, 2004 to start, isntead of ctrl-alt-f7, try ctrl-alt-f2. That should bring you to a login prompt. once there, log in, and enter the following commands IN ORDER 'su root' (may require a password) 'service dm stop' (this will stop X and the display manager.) 'exit' (that will get you out of root and back to your normal user. 'startx' When you type startx, one of two things will happen. 1. the graphical server may start, then we can figure out why it's not starting on it's own. 2. More likely, you'll get a long error message that points you to a log file. if that's the case, post your results here and I or someone else will help more. It shouldn't be, though, I wonder how it got that way. You could run XFdrake as root and see if that fixes it, or you could just go in and edit the line directly - a value of 16 should be safe to use. ANy ideas? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I gave XFdrake another go and set different figures, after a while I was presented with a screen image of vertical bars of many colours. A small box asking "is this the correct setting" clicking yes had no effect I was still left with a blank screen. Had not thought to try the log question will try again and send result. Adam.
