Big_Baller
OK I just want a laptop to take to hot spot and surf the web and use open office for word processing, and mabye some telnet. I would like to run gui linux. What should I get? I'd like to keep $$ under $200. I'm up for looking around on ebay. I'm thinking P3 500mhz right now. What brand should I go with? What brands are known to work best with linux? What specs should I look for? Like I said, nothing special just work web and open office. SoulSe
You might be able to find an old IBM Thinkpad (perhaps even refurbished) for that price. They're true road-warriors, super linux friendly and robust as all hell.
Guest linux_or_bust
I use a IBM TB 600e, and it works perfectly, after a lot of tweaking of course...getting the sound to work was the most difficult. I have had the laptop for about 3 yrs now, and have never had a problem with it.
iphitus
http://www.linux-laptop.net/ http://tuxmobil.org/ Look around for laptops, if you find one you like, check see if it has a review on these sites. iphitus
