airdragon
I am having problems with KDE 3.2. in Mandrake 10.0 PowerPack edition. Everything is fine after the initial reboot, however when I shut it down and reboot again KDE stalled while loading at 85% and goes to a blank Blue Screen! Everything works fine as long as I don't shut the machine down. I'd really like to use Mandrake and get away from Winblows but the machine and OS are unusable in the current state. This is a fresh install and I never had this problem with Mandrake 9.2 on this same machine. I've tried going back to 9.2 and just do an upgrade and the same thing happens. I posted this problem before and tried all the suggestions to no avail any help would be great. But I'm not a linux guru so please dumb it down a bit. And yes I do have a NVIDIA card if that helps. I can't startx in root either. Here is a summary of what I get from the login screen as root: If I hit Ctrl/Alt/F6 and go to the login prompt and try to startx I get this: Using authority file /root/.Xauthority Writing authority file /root/.Xauthority Using authority file /root/.Xauthority Writing authority file /root/.Xauthority Fatal server error: Server is already active for display 0 If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock and start again. When reporting a problem..................... Please report problems to xfree86@xfree86.org. Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key giving up Xinit: unable to connect to X server Xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server Error. spinynorman
I posted this problem before and tried all the suggestions to no avail Brad - it is not helpful to start up a new thread when you already have one running on the same topic. Please don't make a habit of it. I have closed your old thread.
airdragon
I have tried several solutions, none of which worked with KDE 3.2 in Mandrake 10.0. However, I finally tried Gnome and it works fine though I prefer KDE. I've checked various message boards and found no solutions. I suspect it has something to do with my SYNTAX motherboard and KDE 3.2 as other versions have worked as does Gnome.
