Help!!! Missing HD after 9.2 Install!

Help! I just reinstalled 9.2 after it crashed. I have two HDs in my computer, a 20gb that I dual boot with xp pro and a 180 gb drive for my media (mp3s, etc). The 180 was formated into 2 sections, FAT and EXT3: journalized, it was mounted under 9.2 as /storage.

During my reinstall, I used discdrake to remove the FAT section and create a EXT3 /home drive. I find the /home drive ok, but the /storage is gone, nothing!!! Here is my fstab:

/dev/hda5 / ext3 defaults 1 1

none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0

/dev/hdd1 /home ext3 defaults 1 2

none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=udf:iso9660,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1 0 0

none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=ext2:vfat,--,sync,codepage=850,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0 0 0

/dev/hda1 /mnt/win_c ntfs ro,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0 0 0

/dev/hda7 /mnt/win_d vfat codepage=850,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0 0 0

none /proc proc defaults 0 0

/dev/hdd5 /storage ext3 defaults 1 2

/dev/hda6 swap swap defaults 0 0

It looks like it should be coming up, but when I restart, I get nothing under mnt. i am worried that I lost my media; I used samba to hold media for my and my girlfriends ipod, she is gonna be mad. Is there anything I can do? Please help, or email me at newinger@hotmail.com

Thanks in advance.

Don't panic, angrylittleman :-)

* Open a terminal window

* su to root

* type: fdisk -l /dev/hdd

(the l is not an i but a L)

This will give you the information which partions and which (new) numbers are on hdd.

/dev/hdd5 /storage ext3 defaults 1 2

Maybe the hdd5 is now hdd3 or hdd7 or something like that, after you deleted with diskdrake the fat partition. Hopefully your datas are still there.

Here are the results of the fdisk:

Disk /dev/hdd: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes

255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders

Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System

/dev/hdd1 * 1 6526 52420063+ 83 Linux

/dev/hdd2 6527 19457 103868257+ 5 Extended

/dev/hdd5 6527 19457 103868226 83 Linux

hm, I am lost, what does all this mean? It appears to be mounted, but nothing shows up.....

Here is my other hd, the one that I boot from:

Disk /dev/hda: 20.4 GB, 20419854336 bytes

255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 2482 cylinders

Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System

/dev/hda1 * 1 765 6144831 7 HPFS/NTFS

/dev/hda2 766 2482 13791802+ 5 Extended

/dev/hda5 766 1549 6297448+ 83 Linux

/dev/hda6 1550 1624 602406 82 Linux swap

/dev/hda7 1625 2482 6891853+ b Win95 FAT32

What do I do? Please help, I am pretty much a noob.....

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System

/dev/hdd1 * 1 6526 52420063+ 83 Linux

/dev/hdd2 6527 19457 103868257+ 5 Extended

/dev/hdd5 6527 19457 103868226 83 Linux

that means: hdd5 is a logical partition within an extended partition.

And your fstab entry:

/dev/hdd5 /storage ext3 defaults 1 2

is correct as far as I can see. When you open /storage, any errors, or is it just empty without files?

When you boot your pc, do you get any errors about 'can't mount blalala' (hit ESC for verbose mode while booting ...)

I am not an expert either, so someone else has an idea?

I hope you or diskdrake didn't format hdd5 while repartition. If yes, I fear the worst.
