  1. Agree, but the case I'm trying is the scale model simulator IPACS Aerofly Pro that uses opengl and directx: I use win4lin with win ME to install the prog, since the installer hangs with wine. I've set up the fake win directories as symlinks to the win4lin win installation to allow acces to all native win dlls. This is a kind of wine with win config. Starting the sim in win4lin is very choppy, as expected because win4lin doen't support directx. So then I start the sim with wine, and it works smoothly at 180 fps with an nvidia FX 5700 card. Quite nice. This worked fine in mdk 9.2 and 10.1. But with 10.2 the win4lin kernel at 2.6.8.1-03 causes problems with dkms for setting up the nvidia driver and is unstable with kde 3.3, that causes problems with the filesystem after some window hang.
  2. Terryg, What are you trying to do ? Use your scanner under Linux or use it under wine ? If under Linux, did you give a try to SANE that's the front end for scanners and support lots of materials? Hope it will help a bit.
  3. Does someone knows about a win4lin enabled kernel for the 2.6.11.7 version or how to build one? I begin to get some success running directx with win4lin, win me and wine, but I need this version for my tests. Netraverse is still at 2.6.8 and don't promise a new one soon. Thanks for help.
  4. Thanks for your quick replies. I did it on mdk 9.2 with win4lin 5 by installing the sim in win4lin/windows that gave a sloppy running. Then I called the sim from wine (from the friend Thacs), having symlinked the windows and program files to those installed in win4lin and it ran quite fine (directx 8.0a was installed in win4lin). Now I've upgraded to mdk 10.1 pro pack and can't reproduce the same environment due to many many changes either in mdk or wine. Also tried winex compiled from cvs, but couldn't install it due to too much version discrepancies, and cedega pricing policy is quite discouraging. The sim runs at 2 frames per second in win4lin 5 and when started with wine crashes as soon as the window opens . With the 9.2 trick it ran at 350 fps !! I've tried some kernel and wine versions/combinations without success. I'm searching for a good one. Also, upgrading Xorg loses 1500 fps with glxgears with a nvidia fx 5700 I will continue to search, try, crash .... Thanks for the pointers. Next step: I gave a try to the patch for directx9. It's a little better. The sim starts and I can see briefly the logo screen then it crashes with: fixme:opengl:query_function_pbuffer gl_version is: "1.2 (1.5.2 NVIDIA 66.29)" fixme:opengl:query_function_pbuffer glx_exts is: "GLX_ARB_get_proc_address GLX_ARB_multisample GLX_EXT_visual_info GLX_EXT_visual_rating GLX_SGI_swap_control GLX_SGI_video_sync GLX_SGIX_fbconfig " fixme:opengl:query_function_pbuffer gl_version is: "1.2 (1.5.2 NVIDIA 66.29)" fixme:opengl:query_function_pbuffer glx_exts is: "GLX_ARB_get_proc_address GLX_ARB_multisample GLX_EXT_visual_info GLX_EXT_visual_rating GLX_SGI_swap_control GLX_SGI_video_sync GLX_SGIX_fbconfig " Any idea about opengl ?
  5. Hello, Who could tell me what wine version I can use on mdk 10.1 to get directx working ? I'd like to run my rc scale model simulator Ipacs Aerofly pro under linux. It installs directx 8.0a but runs fine with directx 9 under winloose. Thanks. [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  6. Does someone know about a mmedia smp kernel which supports nvidia and win4lin ? My aim is to move to linux all my win$ apps. Mmedia is for music, nvidia and win4lin are for an rc scale model simulator. (tested with mdk 9.2, win4lin 5 and thac's wine, use directx quite fine) And smb is for win4linpro speed. have tried some mmedia kernels but they don't support smp and win4lin pro is slow. or don't have matching source to compile the nvidia driver. Thanks a lot for help. drum.gif [moved from Installing Mandrake by spinynorman]
