  1. hello,

    i've just finished installing mandriva 2007 and went to look for kaffeine to install in MCC but got nothing back on search. I've added all the repo's as usual and did all updates no problem.I can do a urpmq from cli and get back kaffeine as a result. Anybody figured out how to get a listing of all installable packages like u could w/2006 in Control Center?

  2. hello,

    i've been trying to add my printer which is atached on winxp w/samba. The print wizard see's the printer a hp-750 and when i select ok the process fails w/cryptic "Failed to configure printer". I've tried several times and always the same result. I tried loooking thru the cups error log but could not see anything. I dont even know if problem is w/cups or mandriva. I updated to 1.2.1-4.mdk2006.0.mde but that hasnt helped. i attached the error log if someone has suggestions on how to troubleshoot this would be much appreciated.thanx

    ps- sorry about the size of error_log but i turned on diagnose mode in cups and this is what i get...

    error_log.txt

  3. hello,

    i'm getting constant activity on my cd/dvd laptop player and see in Device manager that the value "storage.media_check_enabled" is set to true. I want to toggle to false in hopes it will kill activity light. I tried this custom.fdi file:

    ?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <!-- -*- SGML -*- -->

    <deviceinfo version="0.2">

    <device>

    <!-- Handle unnecessary polling of CD/DVD drive -->

    <match key="storage.bus" string="ide">

    <match key="storage.model" string="TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2102">

    <match key="block.device" string="/dev/hdc">

    <merge key="storage.media_check_enabled" type="bool">false</merge>

    </match>

    </match>

    </match>

    </device>

    </deviceinfo>

    but alas on reboot key is still true. I have put this file in /usr/share/hal/fdi/95userpolicy. Any ideas on how to toggle this value.

    thanx...

  4. hello,

    problem here is since i upgraded kernel to 2.6.17 & hal to 0.5.7-12.mdk2006.0.mde on bootup my Intersil Prism2 mini-pci wireless card running Mandriva 2006 on Toshiba Satellite 1410 is recognized only about 1/2 the time. The other half I see that it refers to my wireless card as eth1 instead of eth0 and says cant find ant config file for device.I see a listing for pcmciautils-007-4mdk. Is this an update to pcmcia-cs that might solve my problem? The reason i say this is in /messages log i see this entry:

    uname -r

    from the mde repo's.

    a little backround. I was trying to update libdbus from mde repo and that was causing a cups error so I went to revert back to stock libdbus and it removed a whole bunch of packages that i thought would be reinstalled when i reinstalled stock libdbus. that's when MCC disappeared altogether. I've been able to reinstall most of drakx but not software. I assume i must have some kind of mismatch between mde packages & stock mdk packages....

  6. hi,

    i've hosed my setup tryiing to upgrade kernel. now i cant use the software module in MCC. i tried urpmi.removemedia -a and readded repo's but still when i click on anything in software it exits w/o screen appearing. I have the mde drakconf module installed. any idea's howto get Software working again w/o reinstall???

    thanx

  7. when i do a urpmq kernel i get a whole bunch of 2.4 kernels available(enterprise,secure etc). which do i choose. i dont get any choice of a 2.6 kernel. Also in reading it seems that all that is changed is a new vmlinuz & image file. is that correct? Also I tried running newer mdv version w/fluxbox & icewm. but i just didnt like that wm's. I'd rather stick w/kde 3.1. I just thought from a security perspective it might be wise to do an upgrade. But how much woch would i be gaining going from 2.4.22-10mdk to 2.4.22.41mdk? That's the one i would assume i would update to...

  8. hello,

    I have an old machine running mdk 9.2 w/kernel 2.4.22-10mdk. Upgrading to newer mandriva is out of the question because of hardware constarints. How difficult would it be to upgrade the kernel via urpmi. Has anyone upgraded like this b4. How did it go,what pitfalls etc. Are there any good guides to doing this.Would it be worth while?

    thanx,

    alan

  9. hello,

    i had a quick ?. tried last night to update mandi daemon and did not go well. Is there a better way way then removing updated packages and then removing the repository where I got the rpm(SoS) and then updating repositories w/official mandriva site again. I guess what i'm saying is there a command to revert back to an older package that you've discovered does not work...

    Quite a mess huh. I had originally run wine tools w/drive_c directory in place and got the winetools window w/a bunch of lines starting with ~ but nothing happened when i clicked any of the boxes. i also got a warning on startup about not having xdialog installed so wouldnt get any intnl input or something to that affect. I put the drive_c folder back but still get no window now and the above message. When i ran wt212 from command line i got the window i talked about above( see attachment for a snapshot).

    Do u have any idea where I should go from here thanx...

  12. thanx for the advice. But do u think i'll have better success using latest tarball rather then the latest rpm(both 0.9.8 & 0.9.7 had same error mesages) i downloaded and installed? I found an rpm version dated 03102005 that the site says is 9.2 compatible. Is that too old a version.Also are there any packages i should have installed b4 trying the compile? I'm curious being a relative newbie what is the difference between the source tarball and .src rpm? I also have a laptop running mandriva 2006 what wine version should i use for that install.....

  13. yeah that's what i'm not sure about. is the latest wine 0.9.8 no good for mdk 9.2? do u know where i can get the latest wine that would work for 9.2? I see a wine version in my install cd but its from '03. Is there anything later cause i hear how wine is always improving i'd like the latest version to improve chances of programs working..thanx...

  14. i was just using root cause when trying to run clock program thru apps menu on kde i was just getting a disappearing hourglass so i wanted to get an error message from the cli to post here. i've run it thru local user with same result as seen from this output:

    ******@localhost ****]$ wine clock

    Application tries to create a window, but no driver could be loaded.

    Make sure that your X server is running and that $DISPLAY is set correctly.

    fixme:win:SetWindowTextA setting text "Clock" of other process window (nil) should not use SendMessage

    See same error message. Any suggestions would be appreciated I really would love to cut the Windows cord but w/no shockwave plugin port to linux along w/no WMP capabilty it makes it real tough. I was hoping w/adobe takeover of macromedia we would see a port but no luck...

  15. that is located in ~/.wine/drive_c. it was created from the .0.9.8 rpm i just downloaded from the winehq site. It said for mdk 10.0 and later but i figured i'd try it. What i'm looking to do is run IE for some shockwave sites i need to run. Have u had any success w/getting shockwave programs to run in linux? I have some old hardware here so upgrading mandriva isnt an option
