  1. 2.6.3-4mdkenterprise i have this kernel....

why is the update trying to install the 2.63-9 Kernel-source file? should i update my kernel? or is there even an update?

    [root@localhost david]# urpmi kernel
One of the following packages is needed:
    1- kernel-2.6.3.4mdk-1-1mdk.i586
    2- kernel-enterprise-2.6.3.4mdk-1-1mdk.i586
    What is your choice? (1-2)

what is the difference between the two if i wanted to update or do i need to? or is there a kernel-2.6.3.9mdk?

PS i got that splash screen to work, so nm about that....

  2. there is another thing (im just spouting off questions lol) it is with a splash screen that i downloaded here: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7673 i did every thing that that person posted in order to set it up, i can go to the KDE config center and actually test and see the thing work, but after i selected it, pressed apply, loged off and loged back on, the old default splashed and the new one didnt....

  3. no i put all of my cd's on one of my 80gb harddrive 32GB fat32 part, and installed linux off of the harddrive, so i never have to put cd's in..... yes i do have broadband though

ya i have 2 80GB raid 0 with xp, an 80GB harddrive with a 32GBFat 32 partition on it so i can swap things back and forth from xp to linux; iinux is installed on the rest of the 48GB on that drive, then i have a 250GB backup drive with a 32GB Fat32 part for linux backup again and the rest of that drive is ntfs..... i have a pretty good setup

  4. i see, well i typed in that code it said to, and it is "examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.update_source.cz]" so im not exactly sure what is going on but.....

well i dont know what this stuff is about perl lang..... i have, and didi install these files before from the same mirror before i messed up kde by forceing an uninstall of part of the core fliles.....( :wall::furious3: )( all i was trying to do was install xine and it said that there were already some files installed that conflicted.....and i uninstalled all of those installed xine and then i had ICEWM to deal with).........but i did at one point before the "happening" installed those files, at least i think i did

  5. did i mention that im kinda a noob, ill need further explanation

im still in transition from XP i dont know all of the linux lingo yet.....

  7. ya i went and change to use the imperial system instead of the metric, now im having slow startup, and it has crashed a couple of times; the login screen would not come up in the GUI when it was supposed to , but the mouse still worked and i could do ctrl alt F1 and work in the text system, i left it crashed like that overnight and when i woke up it was in KDE so now i am updating everything...... hopefully that will fix it, there are a ton of updated that are supposed to fix a bunch of bugs for KDEBASE and other things, but right now i have not turned off my computer to see if any thing bad has happened by me updating things, hopefully not though.

  8. kdebase-common-3.2.2-7mdk

    libkdebase4-devel-3.2.2-7mdk

    kdebase-progs-3.2.2-7mdk

    [root@localhost root]#

o yes i recognise these files, i went to an rpm search and downloaded and installed libkdecorations.so.1

    EDIT:

yes yes yes all of those files... i recognise all of them, i just wish i knew what i deleted....

ok i was installing XINE player, and there was a conflict with an already installd plugin, and i uninstalled the plug in and it had a ton of things tied to it like KDE artwork package or something like that

  9. that sounds like something to my liking.... do i do that from a regular command prompt? or the recovery cd? i wanted to uninstall it from the gui but last time i did that i ended up erasing rpmdrake and drakeconfig... and that was not good at all, but is there a way to get the nautalis file server runing in ICEWM?

  10. well im not sure what you mean by sources, but i downloaded 3 iso cds from linux iso.org and put them in a fat32 partition of my hardrive and installed from my harddrive, i had everything updated using the mandrake update system, i have tried to update those install those things before, and ill see if i can get a screen shot of what happens but if i remember correctly it said something about "libkdecorations.so.1" or something like that, then after i tried to install those, they disappeared from the add menu, i also remember something similar to the first picture happen..... thank you for responding so quickly!!!!

  11. my computer has been up and running fine and i decided to install the xine player when i did, it asked to uninstall a bunch of things, i stupidly pressed ok for all of them then when i restarted my KDE will not load up, i cant even go to the auto login and select KDE because it it not on the menu, but when i go to remove packeage, i see abunch of stuff under kde environment. Please help me, i dont want to have to uninstall and reinstall again...... Those packages that i had to uninstall had to do with KDE multimedia, or something

    EDIT:

now i restarted again after trying to reinstall some things and GNOME is dead, is there a way to GOBACK or use the instalation disk to repair, if not i need to know how to move files to my other harddrive, im in ICEWM now and the nautilis file manager is not loaded or something so i cannot get to a window to cut and paste, i need to know how to move files in text based linux so i can save my files and uninstall and reinstall the wholw thing sob..... sob sob sob........ :furious3::wall:
