Please someone help me, the answer to this problem is to reinstall Mandrake with the developement tools?
-
Yes, the are several C, C+ and C++ compilers out there, so don't let that worry you. You are probably missing some supporting libraries, this is not uncommon if you install Mdk and skip the developement tools (and this would work if you lived your whole life with RPMs and never compiled anything, but that is rarley the case).
Do a urpmi libgcc and see what it gives back, there might be quite a lot you will most like need some of it.
Xbob everything is ok when I run the command urpmi libgcc
[ricky@localhost ricky]$ urpmi libgcc
bash: urpmi: command not found
[ricky@localhost ricky]$ su
Password:
[root@localhost ricky]# urpmi libgcc
Everything already installed
Well, that fixed it for me, I'll have to let more capable hands take over on this one, sorry I couldn't be more help.
Dont worry Xbob sooner or later I will have a killer desptop like everyone else...
-
why are you going through all this? you can get an RPM for gdesklets, you know...which I believe has been pointed out. i mean, i understand if you want to, but if you don't you can save yourself the hassle.
I will search for a good RPM, this is killing me, I have days trying to install this "Welcome To The Linux World Boy"....

Grab the last line from each configure script (the error messages) and put them in Google; you'll find some pertinent information that way.
If the language barrier is the problem, then that's a different story and you wouldn't be expected to figure it out on your own.
My best guess (I'm not at a Linux computer): It seems like you're missing a package for each: one to provide XML::Parser and one to provide /lib/cpp. Do a `urpmf /lib/cpp` to find the package; for the Perl one, try `urpmf [Pp]arser | grep [Pp]erl`. If you want explanation for the commands, let me know or man urpmi. :)
I run the command urpmf /lib/cpp and get the following:
[root@localhost ricky]# urpmf /lib/cpp
gcc-cpp:/lib/cpp
gcc2.96-cpp:/lib/cpp
I also run the coomand urpmf [Pp]arser | grep [Pp]erl and get the following:
[root@localhost ricky]# urpmf [Pp]arser | grep [Pp]erl

Ok I follow feralertx tip to install the C compiler in Konsole I use the command urpmi gcc Mandrake ask me for this 1 so i put it and the process end without any problem, but the problem continue with superkaramba and gDesklets, this is the error after running the command ./configure:

But I have also
gcc-c++-3.3.2-6.mdk This is another C compiler???
What do i do now, I have error using superkaramba and gDesklets after GCC installed...

Hi I am a newbie to the linux world, install mandrake 1 week ago and I want to put my linux with a killer look in order to do this I read that Superkaramba an gDesklets are the best programs to handle themes, ok when I tried to install both packages (latest versions tar files) i have the following error:

I need a C compiler where i can find one? In my distro discs??? and where is this config.log located...
I found a superkaramba rpm I double click the rpm then ask me for disc 1 to install phyton and othe file i dont remenber right now, then when the process end I dont find a new program installed...do I do something wrong and now i cant install the tar file???
Sorry for my bad english, is not my first lenguage but at least people can undertand what help I need here.
-
That should be a fine setup. Do you have lba set for the hd in the bios?
I need to check the LBA set, I let you know....
-
are you just trying to get back to xp? Is this what you get at boot after doing;
sfdisk -d /dev/hda | sfdisk --no-reread -H255 /dev/hda
?
if 'yes' to all of the above, then boot with the xp cd and do a Recovery in Console>choose the xp drive letter>enter the admin password and do
fixboot
fixmbr
exit
take out the cd.
No I get this message when I finish the installation of FC2 when the machine boot Grub put this message in the screen. I press "TAB" like the label said but nothing happen. I try installing 3 times and always the same.
In order to boot into WinXP again I put my Win disk and delete the linux partitions, i have tyhe following setup:
In one harddrive: 1 partitions NTFS Full format for WinXP, a huge partition in FAT32 for both OS, and the third one is free space for linux to create his own partition, the bootloader is located in the MBR, that all, anything wrong with this setup, I take this for a tip right here in the forum.
-
I have this message on screen:
GNU GRUB version 0.94 (640K lower / 3072K upper memory)
[ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename. ]
grub>
This message is related with the dualboot problem between FC2 and WinXP???
-
what is the current situation/setup?
BVC is your question is to me here is my answer:
Current situation:
I have two box one old to TEST and one new, every time I put a distro in my new machine I Test in the old in order to check that everything is ok, in this case FC2 is not working and I have the same problem that most users have with dualboot with WinXP.
Setup:
I setup the HD of my old machine using one tip of this forum: SETUP
The old machine is a 500 Mghz Pentiun with 256 RAM and a 30 GB hardrive, according to some reviews I can install FC2 in this machine without any problem, and in order to install FC2 in my new machine I need to run in my old PC I really don´t want any problem over there.
My new machine have a MSI K7 Motherboard with AMD XP 2500 processor, 512 MB RAM, MSI 5600 with 256 Ram is the videocard, running XP and Mandrake without any problem.
One point here is that both machine have Nvidia videocards, FC2 recognize the old videocard, and mandrake didn´t recognize the new one, that for the Nvidia driver (not opensource)
According to the setup of my old machine what is the best soluttion to install FC2, I download already the Rescue Disc but I really don´t know is this FIX my problem.
I know that most of you here are JEDIS using Linux please help this poor PADAWAN...
B)
-
What is the best solution to FIX this problem with FC2? The Rescue Disk or to do all this thing manually???
Please someone help this is driven me nuts.....
-
Its very sad that the newbies like me need to fix this manually, especially when I dont have the skills to use some command lines. I tried to still FC2 3 times whit the GRUB on the MBR and I have the message:
Minimal Bash-Line Editing.......bla,bla,bla....
After some research I found the FC2 cant coexist with WinXP, i am very sad I am lost all my faith, I will still use my machine with MK and forget about FC2.

Hello everyone,
I have been using and learning mandrake for quite some time now and I am now considering trying a different distrobution. Does anyone know a distrobution thats a little above a noob level but not hard to install and configure?
-Neocytrix
I am in the same situation and some people recomend me Fedora Project 2 or Suse 9.1 Pro, I choose Fedora for the new X server available and is a distro for programming and hacking.
Also the Bluecurve theme is very cool...

If you've burned the ISO correctly it should be bootable, ensure you change your boot order in the BIOS.
inha:
Do you want to keep your Mandrake installation or just the home partition? Do you have /home on a seperate partition, or just part of the root partition?
I didn´t burned the ISO already, I just mounted the image, I will check the md5sum adn burn the image using Nero tools, I ask this because when I download the Mandrake ISOs I was able to boot the image using Daemon Tools.
Thanks for the advice.
-
I just finished the first two disc but I cant get autoplay in CD1, I mount the image using Daemon Tools to take a look at the ISO file but no autoplay available. This is supposed to work like that?
-
I take my choice today folks, I will go for Fedora Project 2 after I read some reviews here I am really keen now, so I will download now the 4 CDs.
Thanks to all here this community is great.

I would say Suse is more noobie freindly than Fedora.
That being said, I like Fedora the best. :P
Just about everything is available under fedora in rpms, it's a developers/hackers distro.
mmmmmmm ok, do I need the 5CD to install suse or only the first 4 disc, why so many disc in this distro??? I read some reviews about suse 9.1 Pro and looks killer to my eyes.
Thanks for your advice !!!
-
For a newbie what distro is better after using Mandrake of course. I want to now any recommendations and why is better one distro or another.

The .torrent files don't work: I have "got bad file info" message.
I've tried with an other .torrent file, the CE one, to see if my config changed by itself, but no it works with the CE .torrent.
must be the OE .torrent file that is bad :o
Does somebody else had the trouble ? or better does the .torrent file for OE worked for somebody here ?
Thanks
roland
First report that I read here that the Bittorrent file is not working the FTP and P2P programs like Emule is working perfect. Also Emule have the 4 Disc, try one of this options if you can.

Microsoft on Wednesday released the latest in a series of studies it has commissioned that show Windows to be as cheap or cheaper than Linux as part of its "Get the Facts" campaign. The latest study, conducted by BearingPoint, found that even looking at only the "hard costs" of licensing and support, Windows Server 2003 was often cheaper than Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Novell/SUSE Linux.
"While the acquisition costs associated with licensing and support should be evaluated, this study has found after comparing the cumulative costs within medium and enterprise scenarios over a five year period that those costs do not significantly differentiate Windows Server 2003, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 or Novell/SUSE Linux 8," BearingPoint said in the conclusion of its report.

I have downloaded the iso files of mdk10 (cd1, cd2 and cd3). Unfortunately, Nero cd-burner always says that, there is not enough space on the disk (700 MB). Whether what is the problem?
Thanks.
Fahdl
I mount the image using Daemons Tool and the use Nero Burning to make my 4 disc copies, no problem with Nero mounting the ISOs.
Is like copy the disc from one drive to another.
Hell if I know...

I found this ones this morning but this are for the 630-11 modem, I have the 630 series, but anyway thank you.
I have now visited the Zyxel site, and it shows that the 630-11 is included in the 630 Series.
- Support speeds of up to 8Mbps downstream and 832Kbps (Prestige 630-11) or 1024Kbps(Prestige 630-41) upstreamEven if you don't have this exact model, it may be sufficiently compatible to work. :)
I will try to install this driver...I need to connect to the world.
