Thanks for the advice but I tried this to no avail..... but I did try Installing again but this time using the 3 CD set (prior I was using the 5CD Powerpack set).
This time the graphics adapter still was not identified but I was able to configure it?? I started by not changing the resolution.. not sure if this helped or not.

Hi, Newbie here so be gentle on me please.
Trying to install mdk10.0 (no dual boot) and when I get to the Config Screen, it says my graphics adapter is not detected... so I go to configure it and mdk has it selected as "Radeon (fglrx)" I changed it to "Radeon 8500" and then try and test it but I get the following:
"An error occurred:
(EE) unable to determine the screen layout
Try to change some parameters"
I've tried changing dozens of options to no avail.
If I just continue on with the install, I am left with the command line after Reboot.
I'm stuck!
FYI - Long term I'm planning on setting this system up as a Media PC and (if I make it this far) a Firewall/Router
General System Specs:Asus A7V (not using ATA100 Interface due to many problems with this and Winedoes.. .hope to try it again later), AIW 8500DV, Fortissimo II Sound Card

This looks greats!, it gives me the drive to keep trying with Linux. THANKS!
Two questions (I am slllllooooooww):
1:
What are "line breaks"?
2:
Did you intend to write "nano" or "urpmi nano" (to download and install Nano with the command:)?
Note: I have not tried your guide yet but I intend to. I have had problems with just a clean install of Mdk 10.0CE. No able to configure the graphics adapter (ATI 8500AIW).
