  1. Hi Moots, Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed reply. I think I now have it working as far as I can. I ran sensors-detect again. Previously I said no to an ISA bus scan (I didn't think I had an ISA bus!). This time I said yes and was told to load i2c-isa and it87 (as you said) and lm78 even though I have an lm90. When I run 'sensors' I get some sensible readings and some not so. I hope the CPU temp of 88degC and +3.3V of 6.58V are not true! I'll check via the bios in a minute. I guess I have to wait until the lm90 is fully supported if it ever will be unless it's perhaps a matter of calibration in the init file. Anyway thanks again, Mike
  2. Hi, I tried to install lm_sensors on a new machine with a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP motherboard without success. I've looked at all the help/readme files I could find. All i get when I type 'sensors' is no sensors found. After runing sensors-detect eventually I'm told to: Copy prog/init/lm_sensors.init to /etc/rc.d/init.d/lm_sensors for initialization at boot time. I'm probably being very dumb, but I can't find prog/init/lm_sensors.init ?? I was wondering if anyone has this motherboard and lm_sensors working (version 2.6.4-5.1 from Mandrake update)? What type of sensor chip does this board use, I can't find the info anywhere. Thanks, Mike PS Mandrake 9.0
  3. Thanks anon, that worked a treat! I wasn't sure if the error meant I had a problem, or if it was the ftp site. Mike
  4. Hi. Firstly, my understanding is that when you run Mandrake Update it retrievs a list of the packages you have currently installed, for which updates (security/bugfixes etc) are available. A couple of weeks ago I updated some packages this way without problem. Now, for the last few days I have tried and always get the error "Error: Ftp couldn't RETR file", "Do you want to continue skipping this package" I get the package listing but get this error after selecting one or more and pressing install. What does this mean? I have been able to install packages from plf using the install package section of rpmdrake. Is it my configuration, or is there a problem with the default update ftp site? (ftp.proxad.net/...) Thanks Mike
  5. I fixed my problem (well this one at least!). As I mentioned I had also changed /mnt/cdrom and cdrom2 to /mnt/cdr and dvd. When I tried to istall a package from the Mandrake control center/software management it refused to accept my cd. I then edited the enty for "installation cd2" to reflect the new /mnt/dvd mounting. When I tried to update as requested it kept spitting the cd2 out. Eventually I realised I needed to put cd1 in the drive to update, even though it was cd2s entry I had just edited. It seems the hdlistn.cz files are only on the first cd. Doh! After editing the all the entries for cds 1,2 and 3 I can now install packages. Mike
  6. I have also made /mnt/cdr and /mnt/dvd directories. I've disabled supermount and can manualy mount/umount both drives and access through konqueror. DVDs and Audio cds are also playing fine. My problem is that the rpm pakage manager (via Mandrake control center) will not recognise these drives. I tried to install a package (eroaster), it asked for install CD2 but continually rejected it. I tried to update the package sources but it will not accept the edited entries. The entries I have for ftp sites are fine so it must be something to do with the 'removable media'. Scince I first installed MDk9.0 a couple of weeks ago I have swapped the IDE channels for the drives if this is significant? Does anyone have any ideas of what I can try next? The mandrake site has an errata for this very problem, but it didn't work for me. Thanks in advance, Mike
