  1. Sorry, I am now officially lost.
  2. You're missing some dependancies, probably 'bison' and maybe others, for me it's easier to run ./tools/wineinstall It will tell you what you are missing.
  3. Did you actually watch it download? I can't imagine where it is going... if you saw it download? Can you look in your /home dir and actually see it? I'm getting lost now...
  4. Grimey, where did you download it to? By default, If you did it as a normal user, it should have downloaded to /home. My guess is that you downloaded it as 'root' which you should not. It should take a while, depending on your connection, to download, maybe from a couple minutes to 15 -20 minutes. When it is downloading, it will print out in your terminal what it is downloading, and it's a pretty long list, Let me know.
  5. The only version of 'free' winex that I have found is dated like somewhere around Feb. 2002, whereas 'regular' wine cvs (like I use) is updated almost daily, though the actual 'version' doesn't change but once a month. In any case, I have had much better luck with 'regular' wine. Michel, I know for a fact that wine can't play EVERYthing, but it will play the Half-Life games. Grimey, I am anxious to hear if what I described above works for you... please post here as soon as you can find out?
  6. Well, if it was an rpm, you can uninstall using package manager. Or if it came from a .tar file and you built it, do 'make uninstall.' If not, try to find where you got it and see if there is info there. Good Luck!
  7. Hope I can help some... First, find out how to uninstall what wine you have, and get rid of it. Then open a terminal and do this(you need to be online!): To login to the CVS tree, do export CVSROOT=:pserver:cvs@cvs.winehq.com:/home/wine cvs login Use ``cvs'' as the password (without the quotes). To check out the entire Wine source tree, do cvs -z3 co wine After you have done this and downloaded cvs wine, cd to the /home/wine directory, and type ./tools/wineinstall Follow the prompts, eventually it will install. This is what I use, and how I got it, and it works great.
  8. No, I don't understand that... but as just a suggestion, can you run it with wine? I used to run it with wine, now I run it native, and I swear it worked BETTER with wine. I'm not joking here, and I don't know why, but only saying maybe you could try it.
  9. I'm guessing that you have the on-board sound disabled in bios, right? I hope so... if you're using the pci...

    DOOM

If you are using Mandrake 9.1, or 9.0 for that matter, find & install these files: (do a google search, or whatever) prboom-2.2.2-1mdk.i586.rpm prboom-gl-2.2.2-1mdk.i586.rpm When you install these, it will complain about missing dependancies, but do it anyway. If I remember right, a newer version will not work ( I think it was 2.2.3-1). Anyway after those are installed, put doom1.wad from your doom CD in /usr/share/games/doom Then you can type prboom.gl in a console, and play! Good luck!
  11. Actually, yes, try this link: http://www.3ddownloads.com/linuxgames/quake3
  12. I got it... I removed the game, and then used an older installer; linuxq3apoint-1.31.x86.run And now my mouse works! I'm so happy. :D
  13. Thanks for all your responses... cannonfodder, I went to mandrake control center, boot, configure, and changed that setting to 'on', and now when it boots up I can see that it is loaded. Thanks.
  14. Thanks,,, so I guess it's not needed on a PC, so can I disable it or whatever? So it won't keep trying to load? Or should I just leave it alone?
  15. Got 9.1 installed fairly smoothly, but when booting, the message 'cannot load acpi daemon' comes up, then the system seems to work fine. Can somebody tell me what that is, what it does, or anything? Thanks.
  16. Well I appreciate that. I tried again, booting to console this time, and it worked fine. Now if I can get Quake2 & Quake3 to work...
  17. Just installed Quake3 on Mandrake9.1, and for the first time, I have no mouselook. If anyone has any ideas, I will appreciate it. Thanks.
  18. Got it. But as I said, I have always done that, and never a problem till now, so my first impulse was to blame the driver. Now I know, and thanks.
  19. Yes, but I may have done wrong - I just hit Ctrl/ Alt/ F4 like I have always done before, yet it happened. I dunno why.
  20. Well, I just tried the all-new, just released, user friendly Nvidia driver, and it totally hosed my system, to the point of not getting into x at all. Even after I tried to go back to the 4191 rpms (which I had rebuilt) I still couldn't get into x. I had to reinstall 9.1. Hope you have better luck, if you have doubts, don't try it. Just a friendly notice, this may not apply to you.
  21. Yeah, OK, thanks for that. I gathered that, after doing some searching around. The huge list of dependancies on glibc2.3 scares me to the point of (hopefully) just waiting for wine to become compatible with it. I really hate to ruin this 9.1 install which took me so long to get together. Thanks.
  22. OK, I have tried everything I know, and I can't make it work. So, if anybody can get Half-Life to work (in open-gl) with wine, or the FREE winex, please post here so I can learn how to do it. Thank you. :(
  23. Ah- never mind- I found a link to the full86.exe...thanks again.
  24. Very cool, thanks- I have the regular version- now I can't locate the file I need to install RTCW, do you have a working link? The official RTCW site requires flash plugin, and DOlsons Mandrake Xperience site's link to it is broken... Thanks......
  25. johnnyv- Is there another way to run RTCW? Without wine? And thanks for the tip- I will try that. For all who have suggested winex,I have tried winex, the free one, and had no luck at all, compared with just plain wine. And I KNOW DOlson likes pure Linux games, but I like my half-life. This is the damndest thing, now I can't even get 9.0 all working again. Serves me right for messing with something that wasn't broke. Next time there's an update, I'm just gonna browse these forums for a year or so, to see what's up before I jump in.
