  1. I have a nvidia GeForce FX 5200 videocard. I installed tyr (2007 beta 3) and tinkered with Xgl 3d desktop a bit. To get it working I installed the nvidia-dkms rpm's from PLF and I used my same xorg.conf file from my 2006 installation with the addition of the followin line in the Device section:

    Option "RenderAccel" "false"

    See https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=32900 for details.

Use the new drak3d tool to setup/turn on.

    Issues:

I could only have 1 desktop instead of my usual 4.

Don't know, but I thought there was supposed to be a cube on the desktop... I tinkered with the drak3d tool but could not see how to get a cube on the desktop. Maybe it's me.

  2. Simply isnt possible for you have libmDNSResponder installed if you did installed avahi, so if you still have libmDNSResponder1you did forced the instalation with --nodeps of force or --replacefiles or --replacepkgs whatever.

If you want to uninstall simply also force the uninstall with for example rpm -e --nodeps or urpme --allow-nodeps.

I'm sorry but you are mistaken. It is possible to have libmDNSResponder installed with installed avahi. See the following 2 CLI outputs:

$ rpm -qa --last | grep -i dns

    libmDNSResponder1-98-4mdk -- Wed 26 Oct 2005 03:23:38 PM CDT

(Please note that libmDNSResponder1 was installed 26 Oct 2005, which is date of my original installation of Mandriva 2006.0.)

    and

$ rpm -qa | grep avah

    libavahi-client3-0.6.9-5.mdk2006.0.mde

    libavahi-compat-howl0-0.6.9-5.mdk2006.0.mde

    libavahi-common3-0.6.9-5.mdk2006.0.mde

    libavahi-core4-0.6.9-5.mdk2006.0.mde

    libavahi-qt3_1-0.6.9-5.mdk2006.0.mde

    avahi-0.6.9-5.mdk2006.0.mde

And I do not install packages with --nodeps or --force or --replacefiles or --replacepkgs or whatever because I don't want to break things.

The following CLI output tells me that libkdecore4-3.5.2-6.mdk2006.0.mde.i586 requires libmDNSResponder1:

    # rpm -e libmDNSResponder1

    error: Failed dependencies:

libmDNSResponder1 is needed by (installed) libkdecore4-3.5.2-6.mdk2006.0.mde.i586

I prefer to not remove packages with rpm -e --nodeps or urpme --allow-nodeps because I don't want to start breaking things.

It seems to me that the correct and/or proper choice would be to fix libkdecore4 so that it does not require libmDNSResponder1.

Thanks again for all your work providing KDE 3.5.2 packages.

    Regards,

    carlash

  3. Lets see if i can explain myself, ...

Thanks again for all your work providing KDE 3.5.2.

However, to be clear, I did not install using --nodeps.

Today I installed your latest kdebase packages using urpmi and then I manually removed libmDNSResponder1-devel.

But, I still cannot remove libmDNSResponder1 because it is needed by libkdecore4-3.5.2-6.mdk2006.0.mde.i586. See command line output below:

    # rpm -e libmDNSResponder1

    error: Failed dependencies:

libmDNSResponder1 is needed by (installed) libkdecore4-3.5.2-6.mdk2006.0.mde.i586

    Thanks,

    carlash

  4. Dont you think that was already taken care?

When avahi is installed is already removing/obsoleting mDNSResponder else you woudnt be able to install it, it would conflict avahi, so to a smoother install avahi is providing libmDNSResponder.

If you want do rpmquery -a|grep mDNSResponder to see if that package exists.

Thanks for all your work providing KDE 3.5.2.

I had removed mDNSResponder in the past. However, libmDNSResponder1-98-4mdk and libmDNSResponder1-devel-98-4mdk are still installed. See below:

    # rpmquery -a|grep mDNSResponder

    libmDNSResponder1-devel-98-4mdk

    libmDNSResponder1-98-4mdk

When I try to remove both of these packages:

    # rpm -e libmDNSResponder1-devel libmDNSResponder1

    error: Failed dependencies:

libdns_sd.so is needed by (installed) kdebase-progs-3.5.2-2.mdk2006.0.mde.i586

libmDNSResponder1 is needed by (installed) libkdecore4-3.5.2-6.mdk2006.0.mde.i586

Or when I try to remove one at a time:

    # rpm -e libmDNSResponder1

    error: Failed dependencies:

    libmDNSResponder1 = 98 is needed by (installed) libmDNSResponder1-devel-98-4mdk.i586

libmDNSResponder1 is needed by (installed) libkdecore4-3.5.2-6.mdk2006.0.mde.i586

    # rpm -e libmDNSResponder1-devel

    error: Failed dependencies:

libdns_sd.so is needed by (installed) kdebase-progs-3.5.2-2.mdk2006.0.mde.i586

I believe the above is telling me that libmDNSResponder1-devel and libmDNSResponder1 are needed by kdebase-progs-3.5.2-2.mdk2006.0.mde.i586 and libkdecore4-3.5.2-6.mdk2006.0.mde.i586 respectively.

Let me reword my question. If mDNSResponder is obsolete and removed, shouldn't I be able to remove libmDNSResponder1-devel and libmDNSResponder1?

    Thanks,

    carlash

  5. By the way libmDNSResponder will be obsoleted cause is a bad piece of software, due to that libkecore is requiring the devel package libmDNSResponder-devel, so to replace mdns was already created avahi but that will cause that also kde must be all replaced at least what depends on libkdecore, this was already done for x86_64 and now im doing it for x64, if there is any kind of issue please fill free to report me at once :)

Today I upgraded my KDE 3.5.2 with these packages:

    libarts1-1.5.2-4.mdk2006.0.mde installed

    libavahi-common3-0.6.9-5.mdk2006.0.mde installed

    arts-1.5.2-4.mdk2006.0.mde installed

    libdbus-1_2-0.61-3.mdk2006.0.mde installed

    libavahi-client3-0.6.9-5.mdk2006.0.mde installed

    libavahi-qt3_1-0.6.9-5.mdk2006.0.mde installed

    libkdecore4-3.5.2-6.mdk2006.0.mde installed

    kdelibs-3.5.2-6.mdk2006.0.mde installed

    Then I tried this:

    # rpm -e libmDNSResponder1-devel libmDNSResponder1

    error: Failed dependencies:

libdns_sd.so is needed by (installed) kdebase-progs-3.5.2-2.mdk2006.0.mde.i586

libmDNSResponder1 is needed by (installed) libkdecore4-3.5.2-6.mdk2006.0.mde.i586

If libmDNSResponder1 is obsolete, shouldn't I be able to remove it?

    Thanks,

    carlash

  6. However, there is one more -devel package I cannot remove -- liblua5-devel-5.0.2-7mdk.

    # rpm -ev liblua5-devel

    error: Failed dependencies:

liblua.so is needed by (installed) libkdecore4-3.5.1-12.mdk2006.0.mde.i586

liblualib.so is needed by (installed) libkdecore4-3.5.1-12.mdk2006.0.mde.i586

    --

    Thanks again - CarLash

Now you can remove liblua-devel without any probs, i have managed to fix libkdecore with an exceptions :)

Today I did "urpmi --auto-select" and 28 packages were installed. However, I still get this:

    # rpm -ev liblua5-devel

    error: Failed dependencies:

liblua.so is needed by (installed) libkdecore4-3.5.1-13.mdk2006.0.mde.i586

liblualib.so is needed by (installed) libkdecore4-3.5.1-13.mdk2006.0.mde.i586

I think I can live with this one devel package installed. Thanks again for your work making KDE 3.5.1 available.

    CarLash

  7. Thanks for all your work making KDE 3.5.1 available. Today I did urpmi --auto-select and the following 6 packages were installed:

    Thanks again - CarLash

  8. Yes, libkdeutils should not require libkdebase-devel, i have fixed it.

This error appeared because due to move files in the other release i had to change some things in specs, so my mistake to put that wrong require.

Removed libkdebase4-devel, but still unable to remove libxorg-x11-devel-6.9.0-39.mdk2006.0.mde

    # rpm -ev libxorg-x11-devel

    error: Failed dependencies:

devel(libXxf86vm) is needed by (installed) libkdemultimedia1-3.5.1-6.mdk2006.0.mde.i586

    TIA - CarLash

    :o

This was already fixed, there is a new kdemultimedia release.

Sorry to keep complaining, but should libkdemultimedia1-3.5.1-7.mdk2006.0.mde.i586 still require many -devel rpm packages?

Today I did urpmi -v --auto-select and here is result.

    # urpmi -v --auto-select

To satisfy dependencies, the following 24 packages are going to be installed (48 MB):

    kdemultimedia-3.5.1-7.mdk2006.0.mde.i586

    Is this OK? (Y/n) y

  10. There was a wrong move of some lib files that caused this, but it is fixed now in the latest rpms.

So you should be able to uninstall the devel rpms again.

Still unable to remove devel rpms. Maybe the following is useful for you:

    Thanks for your reply.

For your info, I did a urpmi --auto-select to upgrade to latest KDE 3.5.1.

Ran into a snag that I was able to work around.

71 of 81 packages were installed. The following 10 packages were not installed:

    kdebase-kdm-3.5.1-12.mdk2006.0.mde

    libkdebase4-kate-3.5.1-12.mdk2006.0.mde

    kdebase-kdm-config-file-3.5.1-12.mdk2006.0.mde

    kdebase-3.5.1-12.mdk2006.0.mde

    kdebase-kdeprintfax-3.5.1-12.mdk2006.0.mde

    libkdebase4-3.5.1-12.mdk2006.0.mde

    libkdebase4-devel-3.5.1-12.mdk2006.0.mde

    kdebase-progs-3.5.1-12.mdk2006.0.mde

    kdebase-kate-3.5.1-12.mdk2006.0.mde

    libkdebase4-kate-devel-3.5.1-12.mdk2006.0.mde

The error message was something like, "libkdeinit_konsole.so is needed by libkdebase4-3.5.1-12.mdk2006.0.mde.i586."

    I typed:

    # urpmi -v libkdebase4-konsole

and 11 packages were installed (the 10 packages that had previously not been installed and libkdebase4-konsole-3.5.1-12.mdk2006.0.mde).

I'll try later to remove some of the devel rpms.

  12. KDE 3.5.1 and -devel packages?

On Jan 19 I upgraded my Mandriva 2006.0 to KDE 3.5 and in Feb. upgraded to KDE 3.5.1 (urpmi --auto-select) and I have noticed that several -devel packages are installed. Some pulled in from Mandriva official repositories. I am wondering why it is necessary to have so many -devel packages installed. I thought that the -devel packages are generally only needed if you are compiling or developing additional modules. Before I upgraded to KDE 3.5 and 3.5.1 I had very few -devel packages installed on this system. Since I am not compiling or developing packages or modules, why are many -devel packages required to be installed with your KDE 3.5.1?

It seems to me that the discussion by chalex20 and mmodem left the issue of what should be in -devel packages unresolved.

For your info here is output of:

  13. Success! I removed /usr/include/DL

    #rm -fr /usr/include/DL*

Then I was able to complete upgrade to KDE 3.5.1 !

    Also I uninstalled nvidia drivers:

    #nvidia-installer --uninstall

Then I installed nvidia rpms from plf:

    dkms-nvidia-8178-4.1.20060plf

    nvidia-xorg-8178-4.1.20060plf

    libnvidia-xorg1-8178-4.1.20060plf

Things seem to be working great.

    Thanks again for your help!

    :)

(I saved a list of all rpms installed the day I upgraded to KDE 3.5 and I did a
