  1.

    Um, Ok  :screwy:

I really don't see a reason for me to make that up, do you?  I didn't spend the night

    A + B x C / D - E = Y = FPS

To feel good about my self.

    :banghead:

I wasn't making any assumptions about you at all, actually. I was questioning whether the systems were doing something screwy - and asking why in the world anyone would need 18,000 fps.

I was just messing with you qnr, sorry if that came off bad.

I don't know why it is running fast, I can't complain though.

  2. This is a very cool program.

Have you ever install something from src (.tar.gz) decided you wanted to remove it and couldn't?

    Here comes checkinstall

    http://asic-linux.com.mx/~izto/checkinstall/

This is great, you simply run

    ./configure

    make

    checkinstall

On my RH system I just did

    # /usr/local/sbin/checkinstall ( I hadn't put it in my path statement)

It handles (make install) and the creates a .rpm (redhat) .tgz (slack) .deb (debian) so if you want to remove it later. all you have to do is

    # rpm -e <filenmae

How cool is that? Here is the output of me running it on Sword. this is the end of it!!

    sword is installed.

if this is your first time, you may need a basic

    global

configuration file.  one can be generated to

    /etc/sword.conf

    by typing: "make install_config"

modules (Bibles, etc.), may then be unzipped to

    /usr/local/share/sword/

type "make register" to help us keep track of how many

    people are using sword.

(you may consider exiting from 'root', first, to make

    this

    a little more personal)

You can use it for basically anyone.

    .rpm (RH, MDK, SuSE......)

.tgz (Slackware, I would imagine CL & Vector)

    .deb (Debian, Libranet, Xandros.....)

Anyway, have fun just thought I would share the info..

  3. 18,000 frames per second?  OK,  saying for a minute that I take that to be correct (note that I didn't say "true" - not claiming you're fibbing), what's the difference between 4,000 fps and 18,000 fps (well, besides 14,000 fps)?  I mean, movies  only need less than 24 fps to fool us into thinking they're full motion.

    Um, Ok :screwy:

I really don't see a reason for me to make that up, do you? I didn't spend the night

    A + B x C / D - E = Y = FPS

To feel good about my self.

    :banghead:

  4. Here's an example on my Libranet box.

    justin@morpheus:~$ glxgears

    14377 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2875.400 FPS

    20895 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4179.000 FPS

    21630 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4326.000 FPS

    20440 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4088.000 FPS

    17459 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3491.800 FPS

    16580 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3316.000 FPS

    20032 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4006.400 FPS

    19718 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3943.600 FPS

    79298 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15859.600 FPS

    92214 frames in 5.0 seconds = 18442.800 FPS

    91756 frames in 5.0 seconds = 18351.200 FPS

    92081 frames in 5.0 seconds = 18416.200 FPS

    92351 frames in 5.0 seconds = 18470.200 FPS

    92426 frames in 5.0 seconds = 18485.200 FPS

    90038 frames in 5.0 seconds = 18007.600 FPS

X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).

    justin@morpheus:~$ uname -a

On the rest of the distro's I've tried, (except RH's latest kernel patch) they have stayed below 5000. Once Lib gets warmed up, it stays around 18000! I don't know why?

  5. I'm with Ixthusdan & bvc, RH9 does have a better look to it. I know what your saying but can't explain.

I think I moved back to libranet 2.8 on my main system though. I would rate it second compared to your list.

I've also found that my FPS in RH9 with the latest RH kernel and Libranet with 2.4.21 that I just finish compiling to be faster than the rest, even Gentoo. Why, I have know idea? I just know what I see.

  6. Yep, I'm lovin' it! I'm not use to so many bios options. There doesn't seem to be 1 NoPNPOS settitng, but it seems you have to set all the options individually to BIOS. Does that sound right? It's Phoenix Award.

What error/s are you getting with nvidia? Are you rebuilding? A gcc compiler error? If so,

    export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=true

    will get you through it.

....and yes, I just might play with the 2.5 and see how it's comming along. I tried it 8-12 mths ago when it was rather young and it was too unstable.

I was thinking of giving ML9.1 another shot but I can't even get the mouse going  It's this usb2 crap, which BTW rh9 doesn't have a prob with I guess because it's not in the kernel. I disabled usb2 in the bios and still can't get the Logitech Mouseman Optical Cordless USB mouse to work in ML9.1. So I'm hesitant to even try the install just to have to compile usb2 out of the kernel, if that is what is necessary and would even work. AARRGGGHHH!!!!! I feel like I'm starting over......AGAIN!

Get this......the via82cxxx_audio/AC97 works in the default rh9 gnome2.2 but hangs everything in my unstable rh9 with gnome2.3.3. I haven't looked too much into this yet as far as module.conf entries etc....

I will have to try that when I get my RH system backup.

    export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=true

I was playing with SuSE, and the latest RH9 Kernel started to give me some crazy fast FPS using glxgears, I'm talking FPS 18,000+

Everyone else from Gentoo, Slack, Lib, SuSE & the rest of the gang I would range from 2500-4500. I still can't believe it, but I've seen it with my own eyes! :D

  7. Oh, one more question

cat /proc/cpuinfo shows my 1900+ cpu to be at 1600 even though I have it at 1900 in the bios, and /var/log/messages shows the same. Do you know how to tell the kernel to use it at 1900? Thanks!

As you can see, AMD uses a different thought process than Intel?? AFAIK, AMD says that for example there XP 2000 would run side-by-side with a Intel 2.0Ghz even though it is rated at: cpu MHz : 1659.642

I'm really not sure on all of that, or if there just playing a numbers game! :D

  8. That's sound awesome man, quite a bit difference from the cellery isn't there?

I only played with it once, didn't get the graphics going and then I found this the other day.

    http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.5/

I've been trying to get my Nvidia graphis to take but haven't succeded yet.

If you want to play with the 2.5, you will need the following from RawHide:

    modutils and mkinitrd RPMs.

There was somthing else I needed, but can't remember what it was.

Currently though I'm playing with SuSE8.2

  9. I think I suffer from mulitple distro personality's MDP for short.  Along with ADD and insomnia it's a crazy mix.  I think they call it:

addImdp, but I'm not sure? :screwy:

actually, I believe the technical term for that according to psychologist and psychiatrists alike is "geek" :mystilol:

Who would know better than you? :cheeky:

Your awesome tyme (look, it's lower case) you da man.

  10. cybrjackle,

i will pm you with my experience with tal and jon and some things that i have observed since my departure.

my view of libranet has changed drastically but i do consider it a good intro to debian....if you cannot get through the debian install. (but i have my opinion on that as well.)

Please do, I'm intrigued! :P Your just a big :arch: fanny! j/k

I keep wanting to try :arch:, but havend made my mind up about it. Maybe I'm just scared.

I'm just getting tired of testing distro's all the time and not sticking with one. I use :redhat: becuase job permits it. Over all, it is stable and nice. RPMs aint so good.

  11. Libranet  2.8 8)

    http://www.libranet.com/

Not to nerdy, but can be.

Great package management with apt, done the debian way not apt4rpm.

No rpms, can't drive you crazy.  If you need rpms, you can convert them with Alien.

Don't have to comile if you don't want to.

Pretty easy install.  auto install nvidia drivers if you have them.

Also includes Realplayer, flash, mozplugger, java, true type fonts after install.  kernel compiling is super easy if you don't want to go the normal route.  Easily upgraded and updated.

Down side, you have to pay up front for it.  Up side if you don't like it in 30 day's you can get your money back.  I would bet you wont give it up though.

Here is a lot of reviews and they have a good community.

while i admit it is an easy "distro" the developers are evil and those "reviews" are mostly from longtime, and therefore biased, users. i would suggest try the ancient but free 2.0 version before deciding to blow all that money for an installer and admin tool.

Sarah31 why do you feel the developers are evil? I haven't heard that one, I don't know, just curious. The Madpenugin reveiw was done by Slack lovers so his isn't to biased.

    Thanks BVC!

Speaking of Evil developers, has anyone read the Gentoo deal on osnews.com today? Pretty good stuff.

  12. Hey ive been useing mandrake since 8.1 and its been working out pretty good for me but lately ive just been getting anoyed with it and i have come to the conclusion that i should see whats out there. Does anyone know a good distro i should try? im looking for something thats not too nerdy, but something that has good package management apt for mandrake seems to be worthless and rpm's are driving me crazy! i dont want to have to compile anything! and one that has a nice install would be great too!  i dont like lindows, lycoris, xandros, redhat, suse yoper looks nice not sure what gentoos like and debian seems too nerdy for me but i could be wrong.
