  1. it's been around for a while, and it's one kernel release behind ATM.  (2.4.20 vs. 2.4.21).  being that it comes from the NSA, I don't really trust it myself ;-)

I remember looking at it about a year or two ago, but I never didn't anything will it. Lately I've seen a Gentoo & Debian box running the kernel allowing anyone to login as root and see how far you can get. I like the idea and as much as I can learn about security the better!

I think the NSA is full of spys. I must say I would like to work for them though.

  2. Ok, I'm trying to get this going on a test machine at work. When I boot up the new kernel which I got from:

    http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.5/

I get the following XFree error:

    [justin@dozer log]$ more XFree86.setup.log

Now I'm a little confused because I don't have a AGP card why that is coming up. I guess it was built into the kernel.rpm and because I don't have the device it is confused??

Is it possible that it is because I'm running:

    [justin@dozer log]$ rpm -q gcc

    gcc-3.2.2-5

  3. i don't dislike red hat i just don't use it. when i stopped using mandrake two years ago i vowed i would never use a rpm based distro again (not because of dependencies but because they are just not very good/smart packages).

i could not care less what red hat, mandrake, or whatever distro does. i do respect red hat for being the distro for so many years that was the main go getter for linux in the business world. the linux community owes red hat their respect at the least imho.

    I'm impressed!

    I second those comments. :P

  4. I like RH, sorry can't help you out. I think people tend not to like it from a multimedia standpoint. Like the fact that mp3, xine, mplayer. RH doesn't install stuff like that. I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) but some of that software would be considered illegal in America and that is why they don't include it. Then there are people who just don't like RPM distro's. There's also the feeling that they are to big and there like MS of the Linux world. I don't agree with that one, so what if they have got the name LINUX out to the massess and Corporations are jumping off the WInwagon and moving over to Linux and like it or not, RH has played a big role in that.
