I've officially given up on linux. Its back to good old, expensive Windows for me...

By the way, I cant log into Linux at all, not even in failsafe mode.

I recently found another thing which may be of use for your helping me. When I try to install, I see a message that says Gdk warning, or something along those lines.

I have no idea of what you're talking about... I tried that no-fb thing, and there was no success. I don't know what to do anymore, I'm beginning o get frustrated.

Whenever I try to install linux, I have noticed two error messages which keep showing. They are:

FBDEV(0): FBIOPAN_DISPLAY: Invalid Arguement

FBDEV(0): FBIOBLANK: Invalid Arguement

After I install, it seems to be fine, and then when I try to boot up linux, it freezes. Could these errors be the problem? And how can i get linux to load for a change!

Wow, my computer specs are very similar to yours, and I too am experiencing the same problems. I've noticed that the computer always freezes in the boot screen in the "Activating Swap Partitions [ok]" bit...

That is what you meant isnt it?

Because if it isnt... I still need help with getting mine to work!!!

i downloaded the i586 version, is there anything wrong with that? is the problem my P4 chip?

Ok, I tried what you told me too... and guess what! It didnt work... Perhaps it didnt completely install or something...

By now, I think that I have tried installing it around 13 times... so um yeah... any help that actually helps would really be appreciated, otherwise thanks anyway.

Perhaps I downloaded the wrong version of linux...

I also tried to unplug my USB, ... and no result was given...

Um, I'm using version 10.2, and i just downloaded it this morning. My motherboard is an ASUS P4PE, my graphics card is an ASUS Nvidia T14200 8x AGP, my sound card is just an ordinary sound blaster... um...

I have a pentium 4, 2.4 GHz.. um... and a keyboard if that helps...

does usb really play a role in this?

I recently downloaded Linux, and installed it perfectly. Everything seems to work fine, until I try and load the actual OS. It's configured as a duel boot with Mandrake Linux and Windows XP.

The crash occurs when the boot up screen is doing a system check, and it freezes after it says "Swap Partition Activating [ok]".

Please help!
