Works almost flawlessly. Occasionally hangs on "Unmounting
file systems" on shutdown. Some of the specialized hardware (jog wheel, camera,
capture button) isn't supported in the Linux kernel (not specific to Mandrake). |

I haven't played much with IRDA but camera, USB, 1024x480
(no typo) and sound work great. Needed a kernel update to get the Sony special keys working. |

Works fine, good installation, but because Mdk still
thinks the sounddriver for NM256 is nm256 you'll have to rename or copy the
nm256_audio.o.gz into nm256.o.gz. Other problem the link /dev/cdrom points
to a nonexisting file (../cdroms/cdroms0) you have to change this link. |

If sound doesn´t work just deactivate Plug and
Play support in your BIOS. Then it works great. Sometimes KDE 2.x crashes.
I don´t know why because it doesn´t happen with other Windowmanagers. |

The main problem is with the stupid graphics card (neomagic)
was not autodetected very well by the old version of X. So I had to manually
update the XF86Config file to get it to work. Once I was up, I figured out
how to switch to X version 4. That version was able to do a much better job
at detecting, although it is still not seeing it as the right chipset, (NM2400
instead of NM2600, I believe). The ongoing issue is that I can't have both my wheel mouse and my touch pad mouse active at the same time. They need two different mouse entries in the X config. I am hopeful that the IR port works, because I want to use it to sync my Palm. But have not tried it yet. Printing from the parallel port worked as expected. |

with "linux pcmcia=0" fixed it. Some minor visual glitches in X, probably due to i815 AGP shared graphics memory. |

I had to disable the PCMCIA support in order to prevent
Linux to crash during the hardware scan. Win-Modem does not work (have to buy a pcmcia card) and bitmapped themes pollutes (sometimes) the X11 output. This problem can be avoided by choosing a simple theme. The rest runs absolutly perfectly. Graphic-speed is surprisingly fast, the overall system performance is excellent, although the notebook is equipped with a 600Mhz Celeron. This machine (+ software) fits my needs. |

I had to do a "no auto-detect" install because the pcmcia
probe caused a kernel panic (with all Red Hat based installers). Because
of this I think whatever USB setup is done at install was skipped and I can't
seem to figure out how to get my USB mouse going without breaking all the
fine things Mandrake has done to make it simple :-) Video is great,
LAN works. Haven't tried to use the CDRW yet. |
