My name is Thomas ('tom') Berger. I live in Berlin, Germany.
I studied Ancient Philology and Philosophy at the university, and I'm a fully
certified male nurse. Now I'm doing Linux webpages. How's that for a vita?

Everything I know about computers and operating systems
I've learned more or less exclusively by trial and error and by reading the
fine manual, of course.
Coming from Windows, I started playing around with Linux in late 1995, going
through various distributions. Since late 1999, I'm using Mandrake Linux as
my main operating system. I also do have some *BSDs (including Mac OS X)
and the inevitable MS Windows installed. I'm not into advocacy, but I'm for
having a choice.
There isn't really a philosophy behind MandrakeUser.
It's just that I've always been searching for a website like this. Since I
didn't find it, I had to do it myself. I'm by no means a 'power user', or
even a guru. I poke around a lot, I'm interested in finding out how stuff
works, but my idea of a nice evening still rather includes a fine wine and
a good book than writing shell scripts or finding out about obscure compiler
options.
Mandrakesoft is nice enough to pay me some bucks and
provide me with some space on their servers. So, if you like this site, you
know what to do *grin*.
