536ep modem connected but no pages loading....

Hi there,

 

Just installed 9.2. Looks great!

Only my winmodem, with intel 536ep chip, doesn't work.

I downloaded the latest drivers from the intel-website and installed fine.

 

When I connect everything seems to work, but I can get no webpage to load.

I succeeded once in getting www.google.com on my screen, but that's it.

 

My ISP doesn't give IP-addresses of the DNS-servers, but everything works fine under XP (as you can see) and it worked perfect under SuSE 8.2, after installing the 536ep-RPM.

 

I read somewhere the problem might have something to do with my unused ethernet card. It has installed, but I don't use it at the moment.

 

Suggestions please! :help:

Hi,

 

I've had this problem myself. For me it's my firewall that causes the problem ( I hate Shorewall). Just disable it and see if you can surf with it down. If you can, then you will need to either change some firewall settings via GUI, or hand edit the rules files for what ever firewall your running.

can you ping externel ip addresses?

 

open a terminal window and type "ping 216.239.59.99" (google.com) without the " 's or 213.232.94.69 (mandrakeusers.org).

 

If you can then it will be a name resolution problem.

I tried a few things:

 

Ping 216.239.59.99 worked without problems.

Ping www.google.com worked just as well. (So name-servers are ok?)

 

rout -n gave the following output:

 

Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface

212.151.128.91 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 ppp0

127.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo

I haven't got a clue what to do now.

Any Ideas?

Hmm.. if you can ping www.google.com (and receive an ip number) then you should be able to browse webpages ok. And your routing table seems perfect. So I have a feeling that the problem is in the web-browser, not networking. What do you use for web browsing?

What is your /etc/resolv.conf file say?

Thanks guys for helping me out!

 

I solved the problem by installing the latest 536ep tgz from linmodem.org instead of the latest version from intel (version 453 instead of 462 or something like that).

 

This did the trick! I haven got a clue why this one works, but I'm glad to say it does!

I have a similar problem Here is what I did:

 

In Konqueror entered a URL. Timed out.

 

Pinged 213.232.94.69. Worked ok.

 

In Konqueror entered 213.232.94.69. Timed out.

 

Pinged 213.232.94.69. Worked a few times then received a "No Buffer Space Available" error message.

 

Logged in as root and entered route -n. Result was:

192.168.242.66 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 u H 0 0 0 ppp0

plus a line that looked like localhost.

 

I have two questions:

 

(a) Any idea what the problem is?

 

(B) Where on linmodem.org can I fine the updated 536ep driver? I have looked at the site and am totally confused about where to find the driver.
