coverup
Could somebody point me to a good set of instructions on how to install Mandriva on an eee PC 1005HA-H (or 1005HA-P in the US). I would like to keep WinXP for time being, so I would like to dual boot.
scarecrow
It sounds like a simple plan: Shrink the existing NTFS partition to whatever size you wish, and then install Mandriva from USB stick (if you don't have some USB CD-ROM handy). To shrink the existing XP installation, use Parted Magic Before shrinking, get sure your XP installation isn't very fragmented, and keep the final size of the partition at least 15% bigger than the total data in it. paulopen
I installed Mandriva 2009 on a Brazilian version of Asus 1000, but I don't remember all steps. I found some information at: http://www.eeextra.com/linux/first-impressions-about-mandriva-20091-on-the-eeebox.html http://www.eeextra.com/linux/installing-mandriva-2009-on-the-eee-box.html http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=100478 Lots of alternatives at: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ I hope that helps. If I remember the specific steps that worked for me I will let you know. Paulo
coverup
Thank you, scarecrow and paulopen. Which version of mandriva would you recommend - One or Free? Which one of them is "100% netbook friendly" as claimed by mandriva? The applications I will be using most of the time are Firefox, Emacs, Latex + Ghostscript, and Adobe Reader. It would be nice to be able to sync with my Palm too.

coverup
Thanks. What's "a trad copy"? In regard to partitioning... My 1005HA has two partitions out of the box! Thanks, Asus. It's however somewhat disturbing that they do not regard this model as "GNU LINUX compatible" (unlike 1008), what could this mean?
