PeterPanic
OK, but shouldn't there be a 9.3 in the cooker? I mean, is 10 really such a new thing then? Do they re-invent mandrake? (Perhaps they reinstall the cool tools of 7.2, 8.0 and 9.0) :-) Cya, PeterPanic
Guest kuchwas
10.0 is not a new thing now, but will be in six months. :D I was just excited about seeing: Mandrake Linux release 10.0 (Cooker) 2.6.0-0test9.4mdk when I rebooted into the kernel this morning! Maybe I'm easy...... Tim
DragonMage
I don't think there is a .3 release in any mandrake distro. From what I know, it's always .0, .1, .2, back to .0, .1, .2 and so on. So after 9.2, the next release is 10.0 And with 2.6 kernel, kde 3.2, mozilla 1.5 (maybe 1.6), and so on.. it should get a major numbering change. capnkirby
Hell, I haven't even decided if I'm installing 9.2 yet! Capn
aRTee
There has been a 5.3 (see distrowatch.com), but apart from that, I agree. Even the sole change of going to a 2.6 kernel warrants the major number increment. But I do think we're going to have to count in Roman Numerals: Mandrake X ;) (Or in Chinese: Mandrake + ...? )

mousematt
will MDK 10.0 have a 2.6 kernel as a standard install? SUSE and RH are staying with 2.4 for a while yet... I think I might keep 9.2 for quite a while yet... at least until 2.6.6 or something like that. Does anyone else hope that Mandrake 10.0 has a choice between 2.4 and 2.6? I hardware that needs 2.4 drivers - and don't exist in 2.6... Yikes!

We have been playing with the 2.6 test kernels, but there are many, many things that do not work. There is a tremendous amount of development work to be done for it to be usable. I things go well, there may be the option to use 2.4 or 2.6, but it is a huge *if*. Tim
sarah31
any idea on what major feature they plan on breaking for 10.0 :P when i used madrake they had a tendency to release exceedingly buggy releases.
