Greg2
What version of Mandriva are you using? With the device plugged in, please open a terminal and post the output (as root) of lsusb Welcome aboard! :)
David Batson
You might try installing usb_modeswitch. It is supposed to fix these sorts of issues I believe. If you use Software Installer, make sure leftmost button is set to "All" and not the default "Packages with GUI" before you search for usb_modeswitch. Greg2
I would suggest installing the usb_modeswitch package that David recommended. Please note that I don't have your device to test, so I can only make a suggestion for you to try, without any guarantee that it will work. :) That said, you could try downloading the 'India BSNL AC8700 Software for Linux' package from here: ztemt.com.cn/ennewzte/service/ziliao.action Then try following the instructions here (that were written for Fedora 10, but the kernel is 2.6.29) so it may work for you: reliance-netconnect-broadband-on-linux I've looked at the ztemtEVDO-1.1-8.i586-fedora9.rpm in the software package, and it 'may' work for you. The good news is, that if you look at the kernel patch-2.6.31-rc4-git4.log, you will find: commit 183791588efd416fc35a71819683b32dee92615b Author: Peng Huang <shawn.p.huang@gmail.com> Date: Wed Jul 22 11:54:48 2009 +0200 USB: serial: option: Add ZTE AC8710 usb modem device. Signed-off-by: Peng Huang <shawn.p.huang@gmail.com> Cc: Jiri Kosina <jkosina@suse.cz> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de> This shows us that it 'could' soon be in the Mandriva kernels > 2.6.31-xx.
