scoopy
Seems my LG DVD-ROM DRD-8160B has survived 9.2. I did not install from this drive, but I have used it with 9.2. If someone could pass this along to whom ever. But I would really like to know how the LG GCE-8525B makes out before I install it. It is a 52x burner I just got for my birthday. VeeDubb
oh yeah, then KEEP it disconnected. at least until a kernel update or LG fixes the problem. THat's kind of an important litle bit of info..... Thanks though. I got the CD's out of my mailbox 15 minutes ago, so I'm g0onna ditch the LG for a while and install without it. VeeDubb
Upgrade the LG CD-ROM firmware to the latest version, for some of the model it seems to solve the problem:http://www.lgeservice.com/CDROM.htm Can anybody confirm or deny that this is a working fix?? I don't realy want to sacrafise my CDrom. Also, it's kind of a pain in the butt.

VeeDubb
Shoot. I realy wanted to upgrede to 9.2 today, so I ditched my LG like I said, but I discovered, much to my schagrin, that my ultra cheap $20.00 CD burner isn't bootable. I tried the CD in my girlfriends laptop and in mandrake 9.1 after bootiong and the disk is fine, but I won't boot on my CDburner. Any sugestions? I don't have the bread for a CD ROM right now. Maybe a boot floppy? THopugh I wouldn't wknow what to put on it.
Guest lostpoet
Hi all. I just thought my cdrom drive had reached the end of it's life. I have a Dell GX1 and my cd quit as dead as can be. Light comes on and never goes off. Now I wonder. It happened when I tried to install 9.2 RC2.

Gowator
I guess a firmware update might fix it. I'd keep hold of it for now.
Ixthusdan
The new kernel 2.4.22-21 fixes the problem.

derxen
That's odd, I have an 8521B and it was not fried by installing 9.2. derxen
aRTee
Just goes to show, Mandrake is not perfect.... ;) In any case, nice that your drive still works. I can imagine that they put all suspect drives on the list and then move those over that they get reports about that they don't have the problem.
